This game is a four-person co-op experience that allows you to experience what it is like to hunt for ghosts. From using Oujia boards to attempting to communicate with ghosts using the spirit box, there are plenty of tools you will need to speak with the dead. However, as you step into the house, what will be the most valuable? Take a look at this list of some of the best pieces of equipment you can use in Phasmophobia.

Updated September 4, 2021 by Amanda Hurych: Thanks to the new Exposition update, playing Phasmophobia has become a whole new ballgame. Certain items have become more useful than they used to be and a new piece of equipment, the DOTS Projector, was added to every ghost hunter's kit. So let's take another look at what tools are best used when searching for ghosts in Phasmophobia.

10 Thermometer

As you start playing the game, you will quickly realize that you have a limited amount of time finding the place where the ghost is located in the home or building. Typically, spirits haunt a specific room or space.

You can use many tools to find where this location is, but the thermometer is one of the best options for you to quickly locate the haunting. Usually, freezing temperatures will indicate that the ghost is near. The thermometer will pick these temperatures up quickly, so this is the tool you want to use from the start.

9 Head Mounted Camera

It is a good idea to have a team member watch out for hauntings in the truck outside. This job is made all the easier if the rest of your group is equipped with head mounted cameras. That way setting up video cameras on tripods is not necessary.

Once a ghost is visible, the scene is quickly going to turn chaotic. A head mounted camera can help the person in the truck have a better idea of what is going on in whatever location you are at.

8 EMF Reader

Much like the thermometer, this tool can also help you to find where the haunting is located. The EMF reader has five lights on it. The more lights that are illuminated, the higher the probability that a ghost is nearby.

A reading of five lights guarantees that a spirit is in the room and could even be hunting you. Its effectiveness is even higher when used in combination with the thermometer.

7 DOTS Projector

The DOTS Projector is the latest piece of equipment to be included in Phasmophobia. It is used to track ghosts' silhouettes when they run past the field of dots it projects on the wall. Certain ghost types now can't be properly identified unless the DOTS Projector is used, making it a necessary tool when on the hunt for them.

What also makes the DOTS Projector particularly handy is that it is equipment you receive at the start of the game, without having to purchase it.

6 Spirit Box

Not only is this tool a cool one to use, but it also can provide very up-to-date information about where the ghost is. Spirit boxes allow you to speak directly with the ghost in the home.

If you listen carefully, the ghost can give you clues about their past, who they are, and even provide information about where they currently are in the house. On some rare occasions, the ghost may even indicate that they are right next to you, which makes it even more likely that they are in hunting mode.

5 Parabolic Microphone

You want to have as many tools on you as possible to be able to tell where the ghost could be. And even more so than before, the parabolic microphone is handy for doing just that. Certain ghosts can now be quite loud, and the microphone can be best used to pinpoint their location.

As a matter of fact, the new ghost known as the Myling is a particularly audible ghost, and the parabolic microphone can be used to help you guess if that is in fact the supernatural being you are searching for.

4 Photo Camera

This tool is your moneymaker; in most of the missions, if you can capture a photo of the ghost, get an image of evidence like footprints, or even a lit Oujia board, you can make some big money on your missions. Therefore, it is important for someone on your team to have a photo camera on them at all times. You never know when you might catch something noteworthy.

3 Ghost Writing Book

Ghost writing does not do much to protect you or to locate ghosts, but it is instrumental in determining what kind of ghost you are after. Placing the book down in a room where the ghost is active can sometimes ensure, depending on what type is around, you identify the ghost.

Seeing writing suddenly appear in the book can also enhance the terror factor in these situations. These ghosts are giving creatures like mythical monsters or even the scariest zombies a run for their money.

2 Flashlights And UV Lights

These tools work similarly, so they will be grouped together. Both are ideal for seeing, which is crucial to the game. However, they also have another purpose of alerting you to when a hunt is about to occur.

oth lights will flicker when a ghost is on the hunt. Once you see the flickering, it is time to hide as the spirit isn't far away. Additionally, UV lights can be used to reveal fingerprints on light switches, which are evidence for ghost activity.

1 Sanity Pills

Losing your sanity can prompt ghosts to hunt you more actively, and there is no other way to increase your sanity than by popping a few sanity pills. Stopping by the truck in the middle of a match to improve your mental well-being becomes necessary the harder the game is, and no other piece of equipment will assist you in this fashion.

Parabolic microphones might look cool and the DOTS Projector might feel snazzy and new, but Sanity Pills are the handiest item to purchase in Phasmophobia, and no ghost-hunting trip should be without them.
