Phasmophobia's Halloween event last year was more of a cosmetic affair, but things look different for 2021. Kinetic Games has revealed its plans for a nightmare difficulty and should have more scares ready for the spookiest time of the year.

Kinetic's Trello board outlines its upcoming plans and how far along they are in the dev process, and its Halloween update took priority yesterday. There's not a whole lot listed in the update description just yet, but it does specify that Phasmophobia should see a nightmare mode for the holiday. There's also three spots for "redacted" additions, and the ominous promise of "and more..." at the end. We may not have an idea as to what those are yet, but Kinetic's last surprises sent its player count soaring.

The team announced its plans for a nightmare difficulty more than a week ago in Phasmophobia's official Discord. Kinetic Games is asking for fan feedback, noting it will look for ways to make identifying ghost-types harder, but doesn't want to limit the chance of spirits interacting. It sounds like a difficult balance, and Kinetic does have its own plans, but the Discord channel has seen thousands of suggestions ranging from upping the number of ghosts to adding more objectives.

Phasmophobia New Ghost Model

The Halloween update isn't quite clear on whether or not this new mode will be limited for a brief season or terror, or if it'll stick around as a permanent Phas feature. Regardless, the ghost-hunting adventure still has plenty to do, as its Exposition Update added two new ghosts, new equipment, and reskinned tools. Its content drops and quick bug fixes have only increases since this past summer, when Kinetic dropped its status as a one-man show and added a few new team members.

Phasmophobia's popularity continues to spike around its updates, and the co-op style ghost investigation hunts have inspired others like it. Forewarned, a Phas-like that drops you into mummy-filled tombs, just dropped this month, and it's worth checking out if you're looking to shake things up a bit.
