The Pokemon Company has started to reveal some of the cards it will release to celebrate turning 25, including some very special Pikachu additions.

Like it or not, Pikachu is the world's most recognizable Pokemon. Everyone from your gran to your baby cousin knows who Pikachu is, which is why it has been taking front and center for Pokemon's 25th-anniversary celebrations. It had a spot alongside Katy Perry for her Pokemon song Electric, and it has also stolen the spotlight for the upcoming TCG celebrations.

The Pokemon Company will release the trading card game's Celebrations expansion later this year and has unveiled the special Pikachu cards that will be included. Seven in total, three of which are based on classic Pikachu Pokemon cards. Surfing Pikachu, flying Pikachu, and a 2021 version of the very first Pikachu Pokemon card ever created.

The other four are brand new but will feature 25 different versions of Pikachu from the past 25 years drawn by 25 different artists. The four-card set is part of the Pokemon TCG's new V-Union mechanic announced last month. Joining all four of them together will show off its complete design, as well as let you see all 25 of the Pikachu that have made the cut.

Unlike Donkey Kong whose 40th birthday was completely ignored by Nintendo, Pokemon has been loading up its schedule with all sorts of things to celebrate turning 25. New trading cards, remakes of Diamond and Pearl, and its first foray into the MOBA genre via Pokemon Unite. It was revealed this week that Unite will launch on Switch on July 21 and expand to mobile this September.

The Pokemon TCG's Celebrations expansion will launch on October 8, 2021, and it won't just feature a bunch of Pikachu. The pack will also include a reissued original Charizard card. Before you go rushing to preorder a set, the reissued Charizard card isn't going to be worth as much as some of the ones are selling for today, at least not yet. If you can get it signed by Charizard's original artist, however, that would be pretty special, regardless of what King Pokemon might have you believe.
