Pistol Whip's first-ever cinematic campaign is now available for download. Dubbed "2089," the free update includes five linked scenes along with new enemies, weapons, models, and a whole lot more.
2089's campaign revolves around a robot-plagued future – one that "needs the perfect hero" in order to rid the world of its new overlords and save the day. Of course, that "perfect hero" is you. You'll step into the role of John Asimov who has access to a new set of weapons to help take down the terrifying robotic menace. The action plays out with a new soundtrack blasting in the background, featuring beats from Black Tiger Sex Machine, Draeden, Processor, and a remix from Magic Sword.
The developer said the five linked scenes represent the largest content drop in Pistol Whip history – which is damn impressive, considering how much post-launch content the game has seen over the past year.
"The campaign is illustrated through immersive cinematics by Comic Artist and Creator Fico Ossio, who has helped to bring life to some of our favorite heroes, including G.I.JOE, Transformers, TMNT, and Spider-Man," reads the update from Cloudhead Games. "The campaign, inspired by some of our favorite 80's science fiction films, also includes new enemies, weapons, models, mechanics, and more."
If you've already jumped into the world of Pistol Whip, Cloudhead Games said you can expect 2089 to offer a set of content that is much more challenging than anything else in the game. This is the last update we'll see in 2020, but far from the end of Pistol Whip. Coming in spring 2021 is Concierge, a "massive, game-changing update" that will bring even more new content to the popular game. Details are scarce, but we're excited to see how the team tries to top 2089.
Pistol Whip is available on the Oculus Store, Steam, and PSVR – although PlayStation won't see 2089 support until next year. It's compatible with a variety of headsets, including Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, and Valve Index.
