A Plague Tale: Requiem has received a new update on all platforms, finally adding a 60fps option via the performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, while PC players can expect to see some additional graphic options, which aim to improve the game's performance on various system configurations.

Naturally, the new option to play with a higher frame rate on consoles has its caveats, so you should expect lower graphical settings on your respective platform. According to the developer, the performance mode "scales the graphical resolution down," though they have not specified the exact resolution as of now. If you're not willing to compromise A Plague Tale: Requiem's rather impressive graphical fidelity, you can always stick with the default resolution mode available to select in the game's options at any time. However, that'll mean sticking with 30fps.

While the new performance mode isn't available on Xbox Series S, this version of the game has also received the new update today with several bug fixes and minor quality-of-life improvements. The same is also true for PC, alongside "additional graphic options" that come with this new patch. These will allow you to optimize the game's performance on a wide range of different hardware configurations even further, as you'll be able to reduce CPU usage thanks to adjustments to the number of animated rats displayed on the screen, and their refresh rates.

Launched in October last year, A Plague Tale: Requiem remains one of the most notable day-one additions to Game Pass in recent months. The title was well-received by players and critics alike, not only for its strong story and decent gameplay but also for its impressive technical execution across all platforms, which is a big deal these days. However, we at TheGamer gave it a score of 2.5 stars, arguing that its theme of giving up instead of fighting for a future isn't a message to welcome in today's climate.

Despite the success surrounding the sequel, it's unclear when another follow-up will be released. Series director Kevin Choteau previously admitted that the team is "quite a bit tired of the rats and this kind of story, this kind of mood," suggesting that it might be a while until players see Amicia de Rune again.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is currently available at a reduced price at several major storefronts, including Steam and the PS Store, and you can play it via Xbox Game Pass if you own an Xbox console.
