Bayonetta was not at E3 this year, and that had fans worried. Surely the game is ready for some sort of reveal more than three years since the original teaser trailer, right? But once again, another E3 came and went without a single high-heeled bullet-toting witch sighting.

Fans were rightly concerned, but Nintendo execs told GameSpot that there was no reason to worry. "It definitely still exists," said one, while another said, "it's progressing well."

But now we're approaching four years since the original teaser trailer. The holiday season is fast approaching and fans are wondering if perhaps Bayonetta will put on a Santa hat and arrive like Saint Nick before the end of the year.

Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya was asked point-blank by VGC whether or not we'll see anything come out this year. However, his response was something we've heard before.

“If you remember last time, I said that even though everyone was asking about Bayonetta 3, maybe you should tell everyone to forget about it for a while,” Kamiya replied. “I kind of need to keep to that stance for now because ultimately, it’s not our decision what to say and when to say it.”

Kamiya’s sentiment mirrored exasperated comments made at the beginning of the year asking fans to just forget about Bayonetta for a while so they can be surprised when it makes a miraculous reappearance. PlatinumGames head producer Atsushi Inaba was quick to assuage fears that Bayonetta 3 was in some sort of trouble. “There’s no need to worry. Don’t worry about it at this time. Everything’s OK,” he said.

“As much as everyone is clamoring to see it, we are really, really waiting to release it too,” Kamiya said, adding that the development team is “very proud” of the progress they’ve made so far. “As much as fans are waiting for it, we are waiting for the day when we can show it. We want everyone to cheer us on as we run to the final stretch. We want to show it too!”

It sounds like PlatinumGames has something that’s worth showing, which makes one wonder what’s the holdup?
