Sometimes life gets a little dull. It feels like something exciting needs to happen to shake things up a bit, but like anyone with a decent survival instinct, any potential real dangers should be avoided at all costs. So what does one do instead?

Horror, psychological thriller, and just normal ol' thriller games can give gamers that umph that they've been missing. Sometimes we all need a little forceful pick me up just to feel something more!

10 Layers Of Fear 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Something often associated with artists of all kinds (from drawing to making music) is the emotion they put into their pieces. That emotion can often be a negative one like depression, anger, or fear.

Layers Of Fear 2 is no stranger to this. Being a sequel to the first Layers Of Fear game, players follow a creative individual trying their hardest to master the current project at hand that means a lot to them. What happens next is for the gamer to find out!

9 Oxenfree (PS4, Android/iOS, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch)

We've all been there. Experienced it through real life or through the TV screen. Naïve teenagers nearing the end of their teenage life, wanting to make the most of their summer, when things take a turn for the worst.

The difference here is that Oxenfree takes a supernatural, thrilling turn that keeps things eerie and unsettling.

8 Happy's Humble Burger Barn (PC)

Happy's Humble Burger Barn is a free indie-simulation game where gamers play as an employee at a burger joint. What's so bad about flipping burgers and serving customers, right?

Well, a lot of people would detest that experience without any more added negatives to it. This game, though? There are more reasons than rude customers and greasy food to make everyone want to quit one week in.

7 Siren Head (PC)

The new Slenderman, if you will. If anyone hasn't heard of Siren Head by now, maybe they don't want to. An artist by the name of Trevor Henderson created this unnerving beast that wanders around forests, broadcasting sounds from different radio frequencies. Sounds such as human voices, music, and even live sirens.

Trevor Henderson is a freelancing horror artist who is no stranger to the technicalities of all things creepy and unsettling to the human mind. In this indie game, players get to experience this creature first hand and see what the fuss is all about.

6 The Dream Machine (PC)

The Dream Machine is a chilling point-and-click adventure game that takes players on a trip into Victor's subconscious mind using a special machine he happens upon in his apartment.

The use of the dream machine gets out of hand, as Victor tries to do everything he can to stop the gadget once and for all. Even if it means going through different people's dreams to do so.

5 Our Secret Below: Demo (PC, Xbox One)

A terrifying reality to some people in the world, players play as an abducted woman in Our Secret Below. The abductor is obsessed with the player, in love with her in some twisted way. But it's quite obvious she isn't the first and might not be the last.

As the player struggles to escape the depths of the strange place they've been pulled into to, the player will uncover things they wish they hadn't. This is a Kickstarter-funded game just about ready to be released. With its demo now out, people are grasping for more.

4 The Convenience Store (PC)

In this dark, damp game the player plays a young lady working night shifts at a convenience store. Sounds harmless enough. When she shows up, her coworker is there in bright spirits (maybe because the player is relieving him, but...). So what could be so unsafe about it?

Being a woman alone at night is a dangerous enough reality as it is, but when things start to become a bit strange... well, it's just strange is all, nothing to worry about. Right?

3 Detention (PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Android/iOS)

Detention plays heavy on Taiwanese and Chinese elements, from the culture to ancient legends. It's a horror game that takes place at a high school where you will find yourself stuck and where you find your reality shifting. Or maybe your sanity. Or maybe both.

The game will give players a taste of what shadowy figures Taiwan whispers about at night that most people probably wish they could forget about.

2 Night Of The Consumers (PC)

A popular indie game that is being picked up by many different YouTube gamers, Night Of The Consumers might just be someone's reality.

Players work at a grocery store. They stock shelves, take longer breaks than they need and get yelled at by the boss. The usual. Except the player is racing against the clock while being run over by crazed consumers. And they're the only active employee working the floors. Welcome to Hell. Or welcome back, to some.

1 Little Nightmares (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch)

The chef from Little Nightmares holding a knife

For some reason, we all have that one reoccurring nightmare we had as children that got ingrained into our brains. That we remember even now. Unnerving images we can't seem to erase and that we can't seem to pinpoint the exact cause of. Children's brains are wild with activities that the adult brain can't understand. There are even cases of kids seeing things that adults just cannot...

In Little Nightmares, players go back to that point in your life. They float through an intriguing and emotional story and confront some childhood fears head-on.
