The big Fortnite X Star Wars event teased at The Game Awards is happening in just a few, but players are struggling to stay in the game right now.

First announced last week, a first of it's kind event will showcase a new Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker trailer in a live, in game event. Players have been queuing up for the last half hour, but as expected, the influx of traffic is causing a lot of stress on the servers.

The top stream on Twitch right now is TimTheTatman partied with DrLupo, SypherPK, and cloakzy. The group was hesistant to ready up because they feared getting kicked before the event actually started. Right now, it appears that very few streamers are able to reliably queue up for the event.

At the insistence of chat, the group ultimately decided to launch the game just 15 minutes before the official start of the event. Before dropping, Tim warned the squad that players were getting disconnected as soon as they left the bus. In the clip, Tim bravely volunteers to jump first, hilariously DC'ing as soon as he does.

Tim theorizes that the first person to jump is always going to get disconnected. Why this would be the case is a mystery, but it's clear that the huge swell of players coming to check out the event is compromising the stability of the game.

At the time of this writing there's still 7 minutes until the event starts and Tim hasn't managed to get back into the game. The new rumor is that mobile players are able to reliably connect to the game.

Geoff Keighley made a live in game announcement at the 10 minute mark that the clip would be premiering soon and that J.J. Abrams was in attendance as well.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker will be in theaters December 20th.
