For whatever reason, Sony thinks the best way to congratulate Microsoft for the launch of the Xbox Series X is using a Mortal Kombat 11 meme.

In case you hadn’t heard, today is a big day for Microsoft. The Xbox Series X and Series S launch today with a limited library and absolutely no exclusive games to speak of. On the plus side, you’ll get some pretty impressive performance upgrades on older Xbox One games thanks to backwards compatibility, and seamless upgrades to next-gen versions when they become available.

And since we’re living in an unlikely age of corporate friendliness thanks to social media, the official PlayStation account celebrated the launch of the Xbox Series X/S by sending the Xbox account an offer of friendship.

That friendship came in the guise of Jax from Mortal Kombat 11 performing a smooth saxophone solo that just oozes purely platonic affection. Although, given how the PS5 is releasing on Thursday and both Sony and Microsoft are bitter rivals for the hearts and minds of gamers as we head into the next generation of consoles, perhaps the fact this “friendship” is being offered in a Mortal Kombat 11 meme shouldn’t be overlooked.

‘Cause one minute it’s friendship, then the next minute it’s Shao Kahn ripping your head off. Or worse.

If you'd prefer to NOT watch the two next-gen gaming giants square off in a battle of MK11 memes, you could tune into Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S launch party. It's being livestreamed on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Gaming starting at 2 PM today. Tune in to try and win one of seven Xbox Series Xs that will be given away live on air, as well as other giveaways and something about a "mysterious structure." Whatever the heck that is.
