In an unprecedented move, Sony has changed the games that will be available for PlayStation Plus in July subscribers at the last minute, so that Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 has been switched for Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition

Sony revealed last month that the games that would be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers to download in July would be Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo. The games were supposed to be available to download today, but a last minute change has resulted in a new lineup of titles. The July 2019 PlayStation Plus lineup now consists of Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes Heavy Rain as part of its package. Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 is no longer included as part of July's games, while Horizon Chase Turbo will still be available.

The official post on the PlayStation Blog website that announced the original lineup has now been edited and updated. The page has all of the text related to Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 crossed out, with a post at the top of the page referencing the fact that the games had been swapped out at the last minute, with no explanation as to why.

One possible explanation for the switch is the negative reaction to the original lineup of games, with many fans criticizing the lackluster titles on offer. Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 reviewed well, but it offers nothing to those who aren't interested in soccer titles and those who have would likely have purchased it within the first year of its release, as it's part of a series that receives annual installments. Horizon Chase Turbo also reviewed well, but it's still an enhanced port of a smartphone game from 2015. The problem with this theory is that there have been many other lackluster months in the history of PlayStation Plus and Sony has never been prompted to switch out the games before... until now.

Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain will soon be coming to the Epic Games Store, which means that the PlayStation line of consoles is losing two exclusives (along with Beyond: Two Souls). It's possible that Sony wants to capitalize on their value as much as possible before they become widely available on PC.

The new lineup of PlayStation Plus games will be available on July 2, 2019.
