Sony unleashed their State Of Play presentation today, and we got a pretty good taste of their future output. While we finally got a few questions answered about some of their forthcoming Playstation exclusives, the presentation certainly raised more questions than it answered. It was simultaneously illuminating, confusing, and frustrating.

So let's break all the games we saw today, and what Sony had to say about them.

Humanity

The first game on the docket left most of us absolutely perplexed about what it was we were watching. Humanity seems to be some sort of puzzle game where huge groups of tiny, colorful humans walk around and get pushed by blocks, or sucked into holes, or fight each other, or just get thrown about. Apparently the game (if it even is a game) will release in 2020, and maybe we'll understand what it is by then.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

Next, we got a pretty beefy trailer for Modern Warfare's story campaign. We saw Captain Price in action, and the graphics are better than anything COD has produced throughout the last two and a half decades. The characters look as realistic as they ever have, the hair and beard technology is stunning. You can practically see every individual bristle of Price's mutton chops. It's a very effective trailer, filled with some good acting, and plenty of explosions. However, we didn't really get much gameplay footage, which would be a theme running through the entire State Of Play presentation.

And to justify this multi-platform game being shown in a Sony showcase, they revealed a Spec Ops Survival Mode that would exclusive to the PS4. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare should be out on October 25th of this year.

Wattam

What is Wattam? That is a very good question. In the second "what am I even watching?" moment of the presentation, the newest game from the creator of Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy was unveiled, and it's kind of hard to explain. It starts with a green cube man in a derby hat asking "why am I alone?", which is one heck of a way to start a trailer. He then meets a small, living pebble, who then summons a large, living rock person. From there, the trailer devolves into utter madness.

A nose with feet smells a flower. A living mouth devours a sentient pineapple. A walking toilet person flushes poo people down its head. Everyone holds hands, asks other beings to "kaboom" with them, people fly into the sun, and our cube person from before pukes up a rainbow. It is quite possibly the most insane thing that's ever been shown in a video game trailer.

Wattam is apparently out this December, so we'll all be able to experience this candy-coated lunacy for ourselves very soon.

Arise

via Push Square

Arise looks to be aiming for the heartstrings of gamers everywhere. It begins with a large group gathered together to give an elder member of their family a Viking funeral. The recipient of this pyre then wakes up in an arctic wasteland and begins an incredible journey that takes him from fields of snow, to mountain tops, to giant sunflowers. It's hard to say for sure, but this looks to Arise's version of the afterlife, and possibly even Valhalla.

It looks very reminiscent of Journey, with a beautiful art style, some very gorgeous music, and an adventure that seems to be very introspective and emotional. Sadly we didn't get an idea of when it may release.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files

For some reason, Sony devoted time during their State Of Play to this port of a VR game that's already been released for PC. Essentially you get to play cases from L.A. Noire through the eyes of everyone's favorite cantankerous 1940's detective, Cole Phelps. You'll be able to yell at suspects, shoot some old guns, and stare at shoes right now, as that game is out for PSVR today.

More PSVR Stuff

In addition to L.A. Noire, Sony announced more games for their virtual reality headset. Devolver's Gorn will let you fight against other ugly gladiators and enemy crabs this Winter. Espire1: VR Operative looks to bringing us some virtual espionage rather soon, as it releases in September 2019. Space Channel 5: Kinda Funky News Flash brings Ulala to VR in the Autumn, Stardust Odyssey sends us to space in the Winter, and After The Fall comes out next year.

Medieval

The skeletal hack and slash adventure released a new demo, which is available to download right now. The remake looks really good, and if you play the demo, you'll even unlock Arthur's helmet in the main game. So go grab that right away.

Civilization VI

Civilization VI is coming to the Playstation 4, which is nice, but we're not sure it needed a full-length trailer here. That'll be out on November 22, 2019, along with some Playstation 4 exclusive content.

Death Stranding

We didn't really get any new info on Death Stranding. Instead, this advertised a Death Stranded edition of the Playstation 4 Pro, which features a white Playstation with some creepy black handprints, as well as a controller that's the same color of yellow as the fluid that the BB's are contained in. Although we don't think there's an actual BB in the controller, because that would be creepy. That'll be out on November 8, 2019.

Afterparty

The next game from Night School Studio was shown here, and we got a bit more of an idea how the game will play. We saw some rhythm action, some beer pong, and apparently there'll be karaoke at some point. This Hellish party will be unleashed on the PS4 come October 29, 2019.

October's PS Plus Games

Hey, do you want MLB: The Show '19, and The Last Of Us Remastered? Because if you got PS Plus, you're getting them next month.

The Last Of Us: Part II

Finally, we got the main event of this State Of Play (especially since Batman didn't show up, again). Unfortunately, we didn't really get much in terms of actual gameplay, but we did find out more about the plot, which is still nice.

Something seems to go wrong for Ellie as she goes off during a winter patrol, and now she seems to want revenge on a large group of scoundrels. Even after a warning from old friend Tommy, she ventures into a ruined city on her own, looking for some revenge. Sure enough, we get our first real glance of a weathered, aged Joel who's come along for the ride.

It looks excellent, but we still wish that Sony would stop teasing us with cutscenes and shows how the game actually plays. Thankfully it won't be that long of a wait, since we finally have the release date of February 21, 2020.
