The #StopHateForProfit movement was brought about by Facebook's lack of concern for hate content and misinformation which was allowed to be spread over the social media platform. Other popular social media websites like Twitch and Twitter have been proactive in responding to hate speech. Twitter has been taking swift action against questionable tweets, including politicians, and Twitch has been actively suspending popular streamers from its website including Dr. Disrespect. The gaming industry is also continuing its crusade to eradicate its community of wrongdoers as various reports of sexual harassment and abuse continue to flood in from within the gaming sector.

The movement's website encourages organizations to "Hit Pause on Hate" in response to Facebook's negligence. The movement refused to sugarcoat the amount of times Facebook failed to remove violent posts that targeted protestors for their attempt to combat racism in the United States. Its website also highlighted the social firm's connection to a news source that turned out to be associated with white nationalists. Facebook reportedly makes $70 billion through its platform, 99% of which is made through advertisements. The movements mission is hellbent on delivering a clear message to Mark Zuckerberg and his team in order to bring about a positive change in the way content is handled.

The #StopHateForProfit movement is another strong advocacy for political and social change within society and powerful companies like Sony and Microsoft are doing its noble part by supporting it.
