Pokémon is a game series that has found popularity all over the world. Initially released for the Gameboy, the pixelated sprites of the series have come a long way. Pokémon Red and Blue were the first games to ever hit western shores, almost instantly begging to crawl their way to fame.

Despite the games 2D art and slower battle system, many fans still go back to their original Game Boy to replay the games. Fans are even willing to spend money to have the batteries of their cartridges replaced so that they can save their games. Red and Blue, like other games, had several trainer classes to battle, but which ones are great and which ones aren't?

10 Best: Cooltrainer

The Cool Trainer may have a tacky sounding name in the first-gen, but they are pretty great on the battlefield. This trainer type has a strong list of partners to choose from, making them a true challenge to beat. Some of the higher leveled ones even have their own Charizard to contend with.

Other Pokémon that the trainer class can use include Dewgong, Kingler, and Starmie.

9 Worst: Youngster

The Youngster has long had a history of being a very unintimidating class. Believe it or not, they have actually been around since the beginning of series history. Youngsters don't have powerful teams and aren't much of a threat to trainers who encounter them on their journey; they are annoying at best.

Some Pokémon, the Youngster class, uses include Rattata, Spearow, and even low-leveled Slowpokes.

8 Best: Burglar

While having to be a Burglar wouldn't be the best career to have when the police force wields Growliths, they do have a pretty good list of creatures at their disposal. This class uses fire-types, which is pretty surprising since most fans would assume that they would carry around Meowth's.

Burglars have Growlithes, Charmeleons, Charizards, Vulpixes, Ninetails, and Ponytas to battle against you with.

7 Worst: Jr. Trainer

This is another class that just isn't worth playing as. Jr. Trainers are known as Campers and later titles and, for the most part, use non-powerful Pokémon. Like Youngsters, they use partners like Rattata that just aren't very hard to overcome in battle, although they do have a bit more variety.

Some of the Pokémon you will find in a Jr. Trainers roster are Mankey, Ekans, and Diglett.

6 Best: Scientist

The Scientist as you might have guessed use mostly electric-types, but they do have a few variants in their arsenal. Along with the electric types, Scientists can have Muks and Weezings. These Pokémon can easily deal poison to your team, which can be a pain to deal with in the field.

Some of the other Pokémon this trainer type carries are Magnetons and Electrode, two powerful Pokémon for this generation.

5 Worst: Bug Catcher

Bug Catchers are one of the first trainer classes you will encounter in the games. This trainer class doesn't have a single Pokémon higher than level twenty and for the most part, can be wiped out in just a couple of turns, They may even be weaker than the other worst classes on this list.

Some Pokémon Bug Catcherx use include Weedle, Caterpie, and Metapod, which won't win you any battles.

4 Best: Swimmer

While sea linked classes aren't as useful in the newer games, the ones in Red and Blue hit pretty hard. Swimmers mostly stay around water, so unless you like the beach, you may not want to play this class, even if they do have strong Pokémon. As you might have guessed, this class only uses water-types.

Some partners you can look forward to using as a Swimmer are Starmie, Cloyster, and Seadra.

3 Worst: Rocket Grunt

Rocket Grunts are easy to take on one after another and without their bosses behind them, pose no real threat. Grunts are only able to go on missions for Team Rocket and don't seem to have much freedom. All Grunts get the same roster of Pokémon to choose from, which is pretty boring.

Some of the allowed partner's Grunts can have are Koffing, Grimer, and Zubat.

2 Best: Beauty

Beauty is another class with a wide variety of partner options to choose from. The Beauty class also appears in the latest games in the series. Beauty has a great roster to choose from and, if used right, could be a powerful class in the original set of games.

The Beauty class has Pokémon like Ivysaur, Seaking, and Cloyster at her disposal.

1 Worst: Fisherman

The Fisherman has long been a class looked down upon throughout the couple of decades the series has been around. Not only would you have to sit in one place for the rest of your life, but fishing in the game just isn't that fun, especially when you only catch Pokémon you already have.

Most Fisherman are stuck using Magikarps or low-level Goldeens in battle.
