Nintendo in its Pokemon Presents today announced it's adding a new event to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Starting from later today, players can finally add the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin to their collection.

Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl players can get the Grass-type by using the game's Mystery Gift function and acquiring Oak's Letter. Similar to other Mystery Gifts there is a limited time period players can obtain it, and this one will last until March 27th.

The Mystery Gift function is unlocked after around two hours of play time so newcomers to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl will need to progress for a bit before this feature is opened up, but after it is, they'll have the chance to obtain one of the rarest Pokemon in the series.

Shaymin is a Mythical Pokemon that was introduced in Generation 4. The Grass-type is one of the smallest of its kind and is a Gratitude Pokemon. Starting later today, players can encounter Shaymin after they enter the Hall of Fame and acquiring the National Pokedex. Just make sure Oak's Letter is obtained via the Mystery Gift function, and you're connected to the Internet. Players will have one chance to catch Shaymin on each of their save files.

In today's Pokemon Presents, which is part of the Pokemon Day celebration stream for the 26th anniversary of the original Pokemon games' release, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company made several big announcements. These include the news that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is getting new content, in a free update, which includes more battles and a new investigation. Alolan Pokemon, from Sun and Moon, are also coming to Pokemon Go from March 1. Meanwhile, in Pokemon Unite, the next 'mon coming to the battler is Duraludon, while new game modes were also announced.

The biggest announcement came at the end of the Present, and that was the confirmation of Gen 9. Later this year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be arriving on Nintendo Switch, offering a brand-new open world and new starters. Exciting times for Pokemon fans!
