The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword & Shield is finally here, and it's adding several Legendary Pokemon from the Unova region to the game. Here's how to catch Virizion in the Crown Tundra.

Virizion was introduced in Pokemon Black & White as one of the members of the Swords of Justice, alongside Terrakion, Cobalion, and Keldeo. Since then, they have been given away during events and can be caught in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, as well as in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Pokemon Crown Tundra Virizion Guide — The Footprints & Sonia

Crown Tundra Sonia

In order to start the Swords of Justice quest, you must reach the town of Freezington and find the set of glowing footprints outside of town. Sonia from Pokemon Sword & Shield's main story will then appear, and will tell you that the footprints belong to Legendary Pokemon that are wandering the Crown Tundra. You need to find enough footprints from each of the Swords of Justice until it says you have found 100% data. Cobalion's footprints are blue, Terrakion's footprints are grey, and Virizion's footprints are whitish green.

Virizion's footprints are the hardest to see, as they are found in grassy areas and they tend to blend in. Virizion's footprints are spread all across Giant's Bed, Old Cemetery, and some are found near Frostpoint Field. Once you have found 100% data for the footprints, return to Sonia and she will tell you where Virizion has appeared.

Virizion will now spawn in Giant's Bed, in the area near the massive field of grass that stretches between two cliff faces. This area is near the Old Cemetery and some abandoned buildings. Once you spot Virizion, save the game and approach it to do battle.

Pokemon Crown Tundra Virizion Guide — How To Catch Virizion

Unlike the Dynamax Adventure Legendary Pokemon that have a 100% catch rate, Virizion is considered a wandering Legendary and can potentially be knocked out. Virizion is a level 70 Grass/Fighting-type Legendary Pokemon that is incredibly resilient to being caught. Make sure to stock up on Ultra Balls or be ready to burn a Master Ball, as Virizion will not go down without a fight. Virizion knows Close Combat, Leaf Blade, Swords Dance, and Sacred Sword, so a Ghost-type Pokemon will resist two of its strongest attacks, but it probably won't be able to tank Leaf Blade. Flying-type moves deal x4 damage to Virizion but be wary of knocking it out. It takes double damage from Poison, Fire, Psychic, Ice, and Fairy-type moves. Strike it with strong moves and then use an attack like False Swipe to drop it down to 1 HP. At this point you'll want to hit it with paralysis or sleep status effects, which will drastically improve your chances of catching Virizion.
