Pokemon Go is celebrating its seventh anniversary since its initial launch in 2016. This year's birthday celebration will be themed around the fan-favorite Pokemon Squirtle, the seventh entry in the Pokedex. In addition to this, there will be several bonuses and new features present during this event window.
Players will have to log in and adventure using the Pokemon Go app to fully take advantage of the Pokemon Go: Anniversary Event, providing you with countless bonuses and event-themed features throughout its duration. There is a lot to take in, ensuring that you're taking full advantage of this event - we've got you covered.
Updated on July 7, 2023: With this year's Anniversary Party Event, there will be several changes from what was offered last year. Taking place from Thursday, July 6 at 10 am local time to Wednesday, July 12 at 8 pm local time, here's everything you can expect from this week-long event.
Pokemon Debuts
Similar to other limited-time events that take place in Pokemon Go, there will be a handful of Pokemon that will be making their debut in this title. In the case of this event, these Pokemon may already be in the game, but there will be a special variant that will be offered during this event window.
For this event, both Wartortle and Blastoise will be available wearing party hats for the first time. Evolving either Squirtle or Wartortle wearing a party hat will result in the evolution also possessing this costume.
Event Bonuses
There will be several event bonuses available throughout this event. Some of these bonuses will be available throughout the entire duration of this event, each provided for you below.
- Higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends with other Trainers
- Higher chance of obtaining Lucky Pokemon from trades
- Can receive 7 or 77 Gimmighoul Coins from spinning Photo Discs at Golden Lure Modules
In addition to this, there will be one additional bonus available each day. These bonuses will change at 12:00am local time each day, each found below.

Wild Encounters
During this event, there will be several Pokemon appearing in the wild more than they usually do. In the case of this event, certain Pokemon will only have their spawn rate increased on certain days of the Anniversary Party Event.

Event Research
Event Field Research
During this event, you will encounter specific Pokemon when completing Event Field Research tasks.
Make sure to acquire and complete these tasks within the event window for a chance to encounter first-partner Pokemon, including Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, and Mudkip.
Additionally, completing other Event Field Research Tasks will reward you with Mega Energy. This includes Mega Energy for the following six Pokemon.

Event Timed Research
There will be an Event Timed Research available to purchase during this event. It will cost $2.00 USD, and require you to complete a variety of tasks in exchange for the following rewards.
- An Incubator
- A Super Incubator
- A Premium Battle Pass
- A Lucky Egg
- A Rocket Radar
- A Star Piece
- An Incense
- An encounter with Pikachu in a party hat
- 77,777 XP
This Timed Research must be completed before the conclusion of this event.
Masterwork Research Story
During this event, you will be able to purchase the Masterwork Research Story, All-in-One #151, for $5.00 USD. Completing the tasks that are part of this will reward you with an encounter with Shiny Mew.
Additionally, either new purchasers or those who have purchased this in the past will benefit from the following three bonuses.
- Double Incense duration
- Double Daily Adventure Incense duration
- Double Lure duration
Once purchased, you will be able to complete the Masterwork Research Story even after this event has concluded.
Avatar Items And Stickers
To further celebrate this event, there will be new Seventh Anniversary avatar items available for purchase at the in-game shop. This includes the 7th Anniversary Top Set and 7th Anniversary Pants.
These will become available at the start of this event and will remain available after it has ended.
Additionally, there will be event-themed stickers available during the event window. Make sure to spin PokeStops, open Gifts, or purchase them from the in-game shop while you can.
