Getting your Pokémon GO buddy to excited status is by no means easy, and keeping them there is even harder. Here are some tips on reaching and maintaining that point.

Pokémon GO's new Buddy Adventure feature has officially been rolled out and trainers around the world are trying to get to grips with it. It's a complicated system, but also an exciting one and it's clear to see that a lot of thought and work has gone into it. Trainers need to feed and play with their buddy Pokémon and can even have them appear on the map alongside them.

Ascending up the Good-Great-Ultra-Best ranks, while challenging, is pretty self-explanatory. However, improving your Pokémon's mood is not as straightforward. There are seven different moods ranging from tired to excited. Once excited, your buddy will discover candy in half the distance it normally takes, and also be able to earn bonus hearts.

The trouble is that Niantic hasn't explained exactly how a buddy Pokémon's mood works. Thankfully, some dataminers have taken a look and shared how the system works on Reddit. For your buddy to reach excited status, it needs to have 32 emotion points. Emotion points are earned via all of the activities that earn trainers' hearts, but unlike hearts, there is no limit on the number you can earn per day.

There are cooldown periods for these activities, though. Feeding your buddy a berry, for instance. That will earn you one emotion point, but it will then be 30 minutes until you can earn another emotion point via feeding. That's why sticking to activities without cooldown periods will be the quickest way to get your buddy excited. Plus, activities without cooldown periods are all worth three emotion points each.

These include opening presents and souvenirs brought to you by your buddy, visiting a location they recommended, and walking 2km with them. Even though there's a daily limit on the number of hearts you can use this way, there is no cap on emotion points. Most other activities will get you one emotion point each with a 30-minute cooldown period, so getting your buddy excited is hard, but hopefully, these tips will help you get there faster.
