Pokemon Go hosts several in-game events, many returning to the game on an annual basis. One of these yearly events is the Festival of Light, a fan-favorite that will return with some new twists and features.

This year's Festival of Light will take place from Friday, October 14, 10 am to Monday, October 17, 8 pm local time. There will be a lot going on with this event in the relatively short window that it will be available, so we've put together everything you need to know to make the most of it.

Pokemon Debuts: Morelull And Shiinotic

This event will mark the debut of Morelull and its evolution Shiinotic, Grass/Fairy dual-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 7. You will need 50 Morelull Candy to evolve Morelull into Shiinotic, so make sure you log in to encounter and catch this Pokemon.

Event Bonuses

During this event window, there will be several active bonuses that can be enjoyed by all players. Each of these event bonuses are provided below.

  • Increased chance of encountering Shiny Chinchou
  • 2x XP for catching Pokemon
  • 2x Candy for catching Pokemon
  • Incense used during this event will last for two hours

Additionally, there will be event-themed stickers for this year's Festival of Light. These can be obtained by spinning PokeStops, opening Gifts, or through purchase at the in-game shop.

Incense Encounters

During the event, there will be Pokemon appearing more frequently when using Incense. Make sure to stock up on and use this item to encounter and catch the following event-themed Pokemon.

Wild Encounters

People with Pokemon from Pokemon Go, including Eevee, Azurill, and Roserade

During this event, you will see a change in the Pokemon that are typically found in the wild. Adventure while logged into Pokemon Go to encounter and catch the following Pokemon.

  • Dedenne

Raids

The Pokemon that are found in Raids will be different during this event. Group up with other Trainers to battle and defeat these specific Pokemon, varying in difficulty, depending on the tier of the Raid. Timed Research

There will be Timed Research available to all players during this event, focusing on catching Pokemon. Make sure to complete this during the event window to earn the Sparkler Pose cosmetic item.

Field Research Task Encounters

When completing Field Research Tasks with the reward of a Pokemon Encounter, you can expect to encounter specific event-themed Pokemon. Make sure that you visit and spin PokeStops to obtain these Field Research Tasks, giving you the chance to encounter the following Pokemon when completed.

  • Morelull
