The holidays are a time for friends and family– which apparently also makes them the time for Pokémon GONiantic for some reason chose the weekend of Thanksgiving and Black Friday to introduce Friend Fest, a brand-new event. Although to be fair, only those in the U.S. are engaging in feasting and shopping. So the rest of the world has had the whole weekend to enjoy the bonuses of Friend Fest. Wherever you are, you've probably noticed that Friend Fest brought new research tasks with it.

Since Friend Fest is themed around togetherness, the research tasks and bonuses reward as such. Trading is discounted by half, you get two special trades per day, and you get an attack bonus for for raiding with friends. As for the quests, they give you "family-themed" Pokémon spawns. Here's each quest and its reward.

Friend Fest: Catch a Nidoran Female - Nidoran Male

Niantic claimed that Pokémon that represented family would spawn more in the wild during this event. For the most part, this means Pokémon that come in bunches. Diglett and Magnemite are all around since they evolve into clumped-together versions of themselves. Combee are also abundant since they're a cluster of bees. But then there's Nidoran. The original gender-specific Pokémon are the stars of this event as they eventually evolve into a king and queen. A mom and dad, of sorts. As such, the quest to catch a female gets you the accompanying male.

Friend Fest: Catch a Nidoran Male - Nidoran Female

Since one is true, the reverse is also true. It's worth noting that both Nidoran genders have a chance to be shiny. That fact alone makes both of these quests great ones to pursue. They both help with the shiny hunt and they're both very easy to do. You shouldn't have to worry about fulfilling your daily task as long as Friend Fest goes on.

Friend Fest: Trade A Pokémon With A Friend - Nidorina or Nidorino

The theme continues with both gender Nidorans' second evolution up for grabs. While this one is also easy to do (you want to be trading during Friend Fest for the discounted cost anyway), the reward isn't that great. Wild evolutions can't be shiny, so you're actually better off with the previous two quests. Unless you want a three-star Nidoran or Nidorino for a living dex.

Friend Fest: Add Three Friends - Nidoking or Nidoqueen

Have you been having trouble finding enough Nidoran candy to fully evolve them? Well here's a quest that gets you a final stage evolution in one go! That's pretty much the only reason to keep this quest. Or maybe you need a three-star Nidoking or Nidoqueen for living dex. Otherwise, it's too much effort for a Pokémon you probably already have.

Friend Fest: Win A Trainer Battle Against Another Trainer - Dodrio or Dugtrio

The final quest breaks away from the Nidoran theme entirely. Now it's back to Pokémon that are one being comprised of multiple heads. Since these are generation one Pokémon, longtime players probably already have them. If you're a new player, enjoy the probably-rare Dodrio spawns. As for the rest of us, we can only remember Clarence and hope he comes to the game next Friend Fest.
