Pokémon GO is launching the Gen 4 invasion with another wave of Pokémon from the Sinnoh Region.

The fourth generation is always the best one. Fourth generation consoles brought us the Super Nintendo, the Sega Genesis, and the TurboGrafx-16… whatever the heck that was. There were also fourth generation jet fighters like the F-16, the Mirage 2000, and the Yakolev Yak-130, which crashed six times before finally being adopted by the Russian air force.

The point is, fourth-gen is always best gen, which is a truism maintained in Pokémon. Fourth-generation games, which were Pokémon Pearl, Pokémon Diamond, and Pokémon Platinum, brought us 107 new Pokémon and almost all of them were instant classics, like Pachirisu, Lopunny, and Bidoof.

Especially Bidoof.

But gen 4 was more than just more Pokémon, it also added evolutions to old favorites. Electabuzz and Magmar saw their highest evolved forms in Electivire and Magmortar, while Eevee got a pair of new Eeveelutions in Glaceon and Leafeon.

And now gen 4 is coming to Pokémon GO.

Yesterday, the Pokémon company released a trailer that showed what to expect in Pokémon GO. It featured a host of gen 4 ‘Mons all frolicking in their native environment, which is the same as our environment but with a lot fewer buildings and a lot more nature.

As with previous generational releases, Niantic is metering out the new stuff in waves. Our first wave is 26 new ‘Mons that are as follows: Turtwig, Grotle, Torterra, Chimchar, Monferno, Infernape, Piplup, Prinplup, Empoleon, Starly, Staravia, Staraptor, Bidoof, Bibarel, Kricketot, Kricketune, Buneary, Lopunny, Shinx, Luxio, Luxray, Riolu, Lucario, Chatot, Carnivine, and Pachirisu.

Riolu and Shinx are only available in 10km eggs, while Chatot, Carnivine, and Pachirisu are all regional exclusives. Chatot can be found generally in the Southern hemisphere, while Carnivine is available in the Southeastern US despite the fact there aren’t really many cactuses there. Pachirisu is locked to Arctic regions in Canada and Russia, which is a little weird since it’s an electric squirrel, but whatever.

Check out this fan-made map for the regional exclusives, and then start planning your vacation accordingly.
