Every now and then I'll come across a story that doesn't seem real regardless of how many times I read it. In a post on the official Gucci Twitter account, the "popular" clothing brand announced that it will soon be crossing over with the mega-successful mobile title Pokémon Go. If you thought 2020 couldn't get any weirder, here's one last thing to change your mind.

It's hard to say exactly what is heading to the game, but the Tweet does give us some insight. A hashtag reads "#TheNorthFacexGucci," which could mean a series of outdoorsy themed gear will be available for purchase. It could also be a sweet new set of bling for Pikachu. The sky's the limit, really.

Lest you think this was a prank by Gucci, the official Pokémon Go Twitter account corroborated the Tweet, writing a pair of eyes for all to speculate over. Maybe my mocked up header isn't actually a joke after all. I could definitely see Pikachu wearing a pair of new Gucci sunglasses, sipping cocktails by the pool while all the other trainers battle their critters for supremacy.

Honestly, this kind of corporate synergy isn't really that surprising for Pokémon Go. As anyone can tell you from when they were able to roam around outside, restaurants like Starbucks and mobile providers such as Sprint have had sponsored deals for the game. I believe I even saw a Baskin Robins one earlier this year. If Gucci wants to get in on that money, why not?
