Gen 6 Pokemon officially arrive in Pokemon Go for the first time today as a week-long Kalos event gets underway.

The summer of 2016 during which it felt like everyone was playing Pokemon Go has never felt further away than it has done in 2020. The pandemic that has gripped us for the majority of this year has had a big effect on the game. Since Niantic created Pokemon Go to be played with friends outside, lockdowns and social distancing meant some big changes had to be made to allow trainers to keep playing.

Niantic implemented those changes quickly and clearly, they worked. 2020 has already been Pokemon Go's most successful year to date. What's more, Niantic has revealed that some of the changes made will be in place until next summer, while others will be a part of the game forever. Next on the agenda, the addition of the game's very first Gen 6 Pokemon.

That starts today (December 2, 2020) via Pokemon Go's week-long Kalos event. It starts at 10 am local time and will introduce the first handful of Pokemon first discovered in the Kalos region. That handful includes the Gen 6 starters Froakie, Chespin, and Fennekin. All three can be found in the wild starting today and will also be hatching from 5km eggs.

Trainers will also be able to find Bunnelby, Fletchling, Litleo, and Noibat for the first time starting today. Klefki is also making its Pokemon Go debut, but can only be found in France for the time being. New themed and timed research is also available which will reward trainers with mega energy. Kalos is the region where Mega Evolution was first introduced to the Pokemon series.

It's going to be a bumper week for Pokemon Go and its players, and an exciting one for anybody itching to get their hands on some new Pokemon. The addition of Kalos region Pokemon also means there are now no more regions left to add to Pokemon Go until a new one is created. Even though the Galar region wasn't introduced until after the Kalos region, Galarian forms of some Pokemon have already debuted in the mobile game.
