Pokémon GO is evolving to Gen 4, and a new leak suggests there could be a huge event in store.
There’s no slowing down this augmented reality juggernaut. After bringing in Generation 3 Pokémon over the first several months of 2018, Niantic is set to introduce Generation 4 possibly as early as next week. And thanks to a leak on Reddit, we might have a sneak peak as to what event Niantic has in store to commemorate the occasion.
First, we should point out that this is a totally unconfirmed leak, and until we hear from Niantic this could all be as fictional as an Ambipom’s third tail. That said, the leaker did back themselves up by saying they’re the same person who predicted the Water Festival and Double XP events. Take this with a cautiously optimistic grain of salt.
The event is rumored to be called the “Evolution Event”, and obviously we’re going to get some Gen 4 Pokédudes. Expect them to come in waves, similar to how Gen 3 was rolled out, with Magmortar, Electivire, and Rhyperior to likely headline the first wave.
There’s also going to be new evolution items added to the game such as the Metal Coat and Electrilizer. Pokémon faithful will note these items were required to evolve certain ‘mons in the Nintendo Pokémon games, so this makes a lot of sense. Also mentioned were Evolution Stones, which means you’ll finally be able to evolve your Eevee into the Evolution you want instead of just hoping to get that Jolteon you’ve been pining for.
As is becoming standard with these events, double XP from evolving and spinning Pokéstops was mentioned, as well as an increased rate of evolution items one receives from Pokéstops. ‘Mon storage is being increased to 2,000, which is sure to make veteran players happy.
The virtual world is also set to change. New quests and quest rewards, increased spawn rate of evolved Pokémon, as well as increased Gen 3 spawn rates are all in the offing. New raids of pre-evolution Pokes are also said to be coming so you can grab one to evolve and complete your Pokédex even faster.
Expect an announcement from Niantic in the coming days, and make sure your extra battery is fully charged. It’s almost GO time.
