May is packed full of exciting events and rewards for Pokemon GO players. From five-star raids to brand-new legendary Pokemon, you have lots to enjoy throughout the month.

Shadow Moltres Appearing In Pokemon GO

Giovanni returns to Pokemon GO in May, with Shadow Moltres in his possession. You can use Super Rocket Radars to find Giovanni and save Shadow Moltres.

Super Rocket Radars will be available in Timed Research tasks during the Luminous Legends X event, which is covered further below.

You can also complete the Team GO Rocket Special Research 'The Higher They Fly', which will reward you with a Super Rocket Radar.

What Is The Research Breakthrough Encounter In May?

Galarian Ponyta will feature in Research Breakthrough encounters throughout May, from Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. until Tuesday, June 1 at 1:00 p.m. PDT.

What Are The Luminous Legends Events In Pokemon GO?

Yvetal and Xerneas Fighting

Xerneas and Yveltal, which first appeared in Pokemon X and Y, both make their Pokemon GO debut in May.

Xerneas will feature in the Luminous Legends X event, which will run from Tuesday, May 4 until Tuesday, May 18. This event will also introduce Swirlix, Goomy, and Spritzee. If players can complete the global challenge, which tasks you with catching a total of 500 million Fairy type Pokemon collectively, Pancham will also make its first appearance in Pokemon GO.

Yveltal will appear in the Luminous Legends Y event, which runs from Tuesday, May 18 until Tuesday, June 1. Specific details have not been revealed about Yveltal's event yet, although it has been teased that we might see some new Dark-type Pokemon appear. There will also be another global challenge, which is likely to focus on Dark-types.

Which Pokemon Will Appear More Frequently In Raids During May?

There are lots of special raids throughout May, including Legendary Pokemon, Mega Evolutions, and rare Pokemon featuring in Raid Hours.

Pokemon GO Legendary Raids May 2021

As mentioned above, Xerneas and Yveltal will both appear in raids during their respective events in May. You will also have the chance to catch Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus in their Incarnate Formes.

Here are all of the Legendary Raids happening in May:

  • Incarnate Forme Tornadus, Incarnate Forme Thundurus, and Incarnate Forme Landorus will appear in five-star raids until Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
  • Xerneas will appear in five-star raids from Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. until Tuesday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
  • Yveltal will appear in five-star raids from Tuesday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. until Tuesday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Pokemon GO Mega Raids May 2021

The following Mega-Evolutions will appear in Mega Raids throughout May:

  • Mega Venusaur, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Abomasnow will appear in Mega Raids until Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
  • Mega Venusaur, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Charizard Y will feature in Mega Raids from Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. until Saturday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. local time.
  • Mega Ampharos, Mega Houndoom, and a surprise Mega Evolution will appear from Saturday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. until Tuesday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Pokemon GO Raid Hour May 2021

Raid Hours are global events during which certain groups of Pokemon appear more often in raids. There will be a Raid Hour event every Wednesday in May between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time.

These Raid Hours will feature Pokemon that usually appear in five-star raids each week, giving more players the chance to encounter them.

What Are The Pokemon Spotlight Hours In May?

Each Tuesday throughout May, trainers can participate in Spotlight Hours. These occur between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time.

These events put specific Pokemon in the spotlight, and also offer various bonuses. The following Pokemon and bonuses will feature in Spotlight Hours in May:

  • Tuesday, May 4: Cottonee will appear more often, and you will earn 2x Candy when catching Pokemon.
  • Tuesday, May 11: Dratini will appear more frequently, and you will earn 2x Candy when transferring Pokemon.
  • Tuesday, May 18: Alolan Rattata will appear during the Spotlight hour, and you will earn 2x XP when evolving Pokemon.
  • Tuesday, May 25: Marill will appear more often, and you will earn 2x Stardust for catching Pokemon.

When Is Community Day In Pokemon GO For May 2021?

May's Community Day is currently scheduled for Sunday, May 15 from 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time. Niantic have not yet revealed which Pokemon will feature in this Community Day.

Are There Any Free Items In Pokemon GO's Shop?

Pokemon GO occasionally gives free items and bundles away in the shop, and you can expect plenty throughout May. Every Monday during May, players can claim a free bundle containing a Remote Raid Pass and other items.
