Quick Links
Pokemon Go has brought several Mega Evolutions to the game over the years, which are supercharged versions of Pokemon that can only be found and used in their Raiding feature. The defeat of these Pokemon provides you with Mega Energy, a rare resource used to obtain these Mega Evolutions for yourself.
Mega Abomasnow falls into this category as an extremely powerful version of Abomasnow. This Mega Evolution proves to be a tough Raid Pokemon to defeat, but fear not: we've put together a guide containing everything you need to know to take out this Mega Evolution with ease.
Recommended Group Size
Mega Abomasnow can only be found in Mega Raids, a Raid tier that typically can't be completed successfully on your own. With that in mind, it is recommended that you attempt this Raid with a group of three to five players.
This group size provides you with a bit of wiggle room when it comes to defeating this Mega Evolution, not necessarily requiring everyone to be using top-notch counters to Mega Abomasnow. It is possible to complete this Raid with fewer players, but you would need your entire team to use top-tier counter picks to ensure your success.
Mega Abomasnow: Strengths And Weaknesses
Like normal Abomasnow, Mega Abomasnow possesses a Grass and Ice dual typing. Luckily, this type pairing presents Mega Abomasnow with more weaknesses than strengths, proving to be an advantage to you on the battlefield.
This Pokemon only has four types that it is resistant to: Electric, Grass, Ground, and Water-type attacks. For its weaknesses, Mega Abomasnow is vulnerable to seven different types of attacks: Fire, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel. This Pokemon is double-weak to Fire-type attacks, dealing almost two times the damage that is dealt by the other six types that it is weak to.
With this specific typing in mind, make sure to be using a team of Pokemon that possess powerful Fire-type attacks, while also avoiding the use of Pokemon that are either Electric, Grass, Ground, or Water types.
Make sure to take advantage of the Same Type Attack Bonus mechanic when considering which Pokemon to use for this Raid. Same Type Attack Bonus, or STAB, increases your Pokemon's damage if they are using attacks that match their type.
Mega Abomasnow: Best Counter Picks
With its double-weakness to Fire-type attacks, use as many Pokemon with this type of attack as possible, maximizing your overall damage output. As long as you're doing this and avoiding the use of Pokemon that Mega Abomasnow is resistant to, this Raid battle should be no problem.
We have put together a list of the best Pokemon when it comes to countering this Mega Evolution, including mostly Fire types in addition to a few Fighting, Flying, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel types.
Using the following Pokemon proves to be the most effective against this specific Pokemon, as they possess attacks that are extremely effective against Mega Abomasnow. That being said, it is definitely possible to successfully complete this Raid with a party using other Fire, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel-type Pokemon.
