As we all know, Grass is the best type of Pokemon, hands down. This led countless young children to choose Bulbasaur as their starter in the original Pokemon Red & Blue, and that tradition has continued with the Grass-type faithful all the way through to the modern incarnations of this classic franchise.

Mega Evolutions recently arrived in Pokemon GO, and that means Mega Venusaur is now available for us faithful Grass fans. Getting Mega Venusaur involves obtaining your Mega bracelet and then harvesting Mega Venusaur Raids for Mega Energy. Do it enough and you’ll be able to Mega evolve your beloved Venusaur.

But defeating a Mega Venusaur to harvest their Mega Energy is no easy task. We’re here to help you on your way with some useful info that’ll make taking down a Mega Venusaur that much easier.

Pokemon Go Venusaur - Analysis

Mega Venusaur is a Poison/Grass-type, which makes it weak against Fire, Flying, and Ice, but strong against Fairy, Water, Ground, Rock, and other Grass-types. It’s fast moves are both Grass-types: Vine Whip and Razor Leaf. Venusaur’s Charge Moves can be either Petal Blizzard, Solar Beam, or Sludge Bomb. Solar Beam is definitely Mega Venusaur’s strongest overall attack, but Sludge Bomb should be feared for its greater ability to damage common counters such as Mewtwo or Charizard.

Try to avoid Mega Venusaur during sunny and clear days where its Grass-type moves will be strengthened. Also, beware cloudy and overcast days when Sludge Bomb will hit even harder than it already does.

Pokémon Go Venusaur — Best Counters

Easily the two best counters to Mega Venusaur are Mega Charizard (either X or Y) and Mewtwo. Other good options are Flying or Psychic-type Pokemon such as Reshiram, Moltres, Latios, Darmanitan, Victini, Chandelure, Alakazam, Metagross, Heatran, and Blaziken. Pure Ice-types will have an advantage against Venusaur’s Grass moves, but there are so few bulky pure Ice Pokemon that it’s simply better to go with the more powerful Fire and Psychic-types available.
