The greatest thrill that comes from Pokemon Go is, naturally, coming close to catching them all. Each new creature that gets added to your Pokedex is a cause for celebration, and evolving Pokemon is often the best way to get there. I know what you Pokemon Go players are like. I know you’ve been throwing berries, catching Pokemon, and collecting candies - but that doesn’t guarantee you will have everything you need to complete you Pokedex.

A majority of Pokemon in Pokemon Go require you to simply catch that Pokemon many times, enabling you to hoard candies which you can later splash on forcing that Pokemon to evolve - pretty reasonable, honestly. But the mainline Pokemon games don’t always make evolution so easy, and in fact, sometimes you’ll need special items, and this is what Pokemon Go does too with the Sinnoh Stones.

Sinnoh Stones are evolutionary stones which help evolve Pokemon into forms first found in the Sinnoh region - shocking, I know. In this guide we’re going to break down exactly which Pokemon require Sinnoh stones for evolution. If you’ve been playing the game for a long time you will likely already have a bunch of Pokemon ripe for evolution and all the candies you need, now it’s just a case of getting the stones so you can get closer to completing that Pokedex. Just read on below for everything you need to know about Sinnoh Stones in Pokemon Go.

Kanto Pokemon That Evolve With A Sinnoh Stone

Here are all of the OG gen-one Pokemon that can be evolved using a Sinnoh Stone. Since these Pokemon have been available since the start of Pokemon Go, we hope you’ve already managed to save up plenty of candy and can evolve them easily enough.

  • Electabuzz > Electivire
  • Magmar > Magmortar
  • Rhydon > Rhyperior
  • Tangela > Tangrowth
  • Lickitung > Lickilicky

The most difficult Pokemon to evolve here might just be the likes of Tangela and Lickitung, as these Pokemon don’t spawn too often in the wild.

Johto Pokemon That Evolve With A Sinnoh Stone

Now we’re onto the Pokemon that originated in gen-two, and there are plenty of them. All of these are worth evolving, and hopefully you’ll have the candy you need.

  • Gligar > Gliscor
  • Misdreavus > Mismagius
  • Murkrow > Honchkrow
  • Togetic > Togekiss
  • Piloswine > Mamoswine
  • Aipom > Ambipom
  • Yanma > Yanmega
  • Porygon2 > Porygon-Z
  • Sneasel > Weavile

Some of these Pokemon have been incredibly common in the past, including Misdreavus and Murkrow, so hopefully this will be an easy list of Pokemon to complete. Though Porygon2 might make it more difficult.

Hoenn Pokemon That Evolve With A Sinnoh Stone

Pokemon Anime Gallade and Trainer

Finally, we’re onto the Hoenn Pokemon. Fun fact: none of the Pokemon that originate in Sinnoh need a Sinnoh Stone to evolve. Weird! There’s probably some weird lore reason surrounding this, but it’s too early for me to even begin to hypothesise.

  • Snorunt (Female) > Froslass
  • Roselia > Roserade
  • Dusclops > Dusknoir
  • Kirlia (Male) > Gallade

Now there are two standouts here. Snorunt and Kirlia need to be a specific gender in order to evolve with a Sinnoh Stone, and these are the only two gender restricted Pokemon of this kind. Froslass can only be obtained by evolving a female Snorunt, and Gallade can only be evolved from a male Kirlia - both rarer than their counterparts. Let’s hope you’ve managed to catch one before now!
