It's time for the first Pokemon Go in-game event of the year, bringing several additions and changes to the game for a limited time. This in-game event, titled the Twinkling Fantasy Event, is brand new to the game, making its debut with a Dragon and Fairy-type theme.

Like other events brought to the game in the past, the Twinkling Fantasy Event will only be available for a limited time, taking place from Tuesday, January 10, at 8am local time to Monday, January 16, at 10pm local time. Below you can find everything you need to know to take advantage of all that this brand-new event has to offer.

Event Bonuses

As with any Pokemon Go in-game event, the Twinkling Fantasy Event will have different bonuses available to all who play the game during the event window. Each of these four event bonuses can be found below, and are mainly related to catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, or Excellent Throws.

  • Double XP for catching Pokemon using either a Nice, Great, or Excellent Throw.
  • Bonus Candy for catching Pokemon using either a Nice, Great, or Excellent Throw.
  • Higher chance of receiving Candy XL when catching Pokemon using either a Nice, Great, or Excellent Throw (only applies to Trainers level 31 or above).
  • Snapshots have a chance to provide a surprise encounter with a Dragon or Fairy-type Pokemon.

Event Raids

This event will mark the Pokemon Go debut of a new Raid Pokemon: Mega Salamence. This Dragon and Flying dual-type Pokemon can be found in Mega Raids throughout the duration of this event, providing you with Salamence Mega Energy and other in-game rewards when successfully defeated.

In addition to this, there will be a change in the Pokemon typically found in all tiers of Raids, all following this event's Dragon and Fairy-type theme. Each of these Raid Pokemon can be found below with the Raid tier that they can be found in.

Zekrom caught following the completion of its Five-Star Raid will know the Charged Attack Fusion Bolt. This move has 90 power in Trainer battles and 140 power in Gym and Raid battles.

Event Research

Field Research Task Encounters

There will be event Field Research Tasks available from spinning different PokeStop and Pokemon Gym Photo Discs. The completion of some of these Field Research Tasks will provide you with a Pokemon encounter, containing one of five event-themed Pokemon.

Make sure to acquire and complete these event Field Research Tasks for a chance to encounter and catch one of the following Pokemon.

  • Clefairy
  • Dratini
  • Bagon
  • Dedenne
  • Goomy

Starting with this event, Dedenne will have the chance of being shiny for the first time in Pokemon Go.

Event Collection Challenge

There will be a Twinkling Fantasy Collection Challenge available throughout the duration of this event, tasking you with catching different event-themed Pokemon. The completion of this Collection Challenge will provide you with the following in-game rewards.

  • 50 Salamence Mega Energy
  • One Charged TM
  • One Fast TM

Event Wild Encounters

There will be a change in the Pokemon that frequently appear in the wild during this event window, increasing the spawn rate of several Dragon and Fairy-type Pokemon. Make sure to log in and adventure during this event for a chance to encounter and catch the following Pokemon.
