Pokemon Go’s Unova Collection Challenge is live now - at least, it is for some people. If you logged into the game today and found yourself with access to a challenge that should be scheduled for tomorrow, well you can consider yourself lucky, and it’s time to complete it and reap all of the available rewards. Always nice to get a head-start on these things, especially if you can brag to your friends in advance.

The Unova Collection Challenge Event is exactly what it sounds like - you will be tasked with catching a bunch of monsters which are native to the Unova region, and you’ll have to work pretty hard in order to get all of these monsters, as some are particularly rare. The event still hasn’t launched for me where I am (and yes, it hurts) but it’ll be available very soon - until then you can find everything you need to know about the Unova Collection Challenge Event below.

What To Catch In Pokemon Go’s Unova Collection Challenge Event

As mentioned, your first task, and arguably the most important one, if catching a whole bunch of Unovan Pokemon or perhaps even hatching them from eggs. You have nine Pokemon to hunt down, and some of those will be far easier than others, that’s for sure.

Regardless of which Pokemon you’re aiming for from this list, do ensure you check whether or not you need their Candy for evolutions or for powering up your competitive Pokemon - this is an excellent opportunity to get some extra Candy and fill out that Pokedex, especially since you can rest assured that many of the Pokemon included here will have boosted appearance rates in the wild. Or at least, we hope so. Here’s the full list of Pokemon to watch for:

  • Tepig
  • Oshawott
  • Snivy
  • Lilipup
  • Herdier
  • Zebstrika
  • Roggenrola
  • Solosis
  • Ferroseed
  • Blitzle

You’ve likely seen plenty of Lilipup and Roggenrola roaming your local neighbourhood in Pokemon Go before, but the likes of Ferroseed and Solosis are a bit tougher to get your Pokeball around…

For your efforts in catching all of those Pokemon you will receive 3k Stardust, 30 Pokeballs, and 5 rare candy - which honestly feels a little underwhelming.

How To Catch The Unova Collection Challenge Event Pokemon In Pokemon Go

First, the Unovan starter Pokemon, Tepig, Snivy, and Oshawott, can all be found in the wild, in addition to 2km eggs.

Lilipup is having a spotlight day on January 5, and Herdier should be easy to catch on that day too.

Solosis, Blitzle, and Roggenrola are all a touch rarer but should be available in the wild, and from 5km eggs.

Ferroseed is a fair bit rarer, and you’ll want to start cooking a 10km egg to find this Pokemon with any certainty - though we can hope lures and incense will greatly boost our chances of catching one very soon.

Once all of those Pokemon are captured the rewards are yours - but the opportunity to complete your Pokedex and earn extra candy is certainly far more valuable in the long run.
