It's time for a new event in Pokémon GOthis time focusing on travel. Niantic decided to have its Pokémon-catching mobile hit celebrate World Tourism Day. To be more specific, regional Pokémon are now available in eggs, including European newcomer Mime Jr. Seviper and Zangoose can now be shiny, although they still each inhabit a separate half of the world. What it boils down to from a gameplay standpoint is an event that only fully rewards those with the money to travel the world. The rest of us will have to rely on Research Tasks.

The World Tourism Day event is like any other Pokémon GO event in that it introduces new limited-time Research Tasks into the mix. For those who need a refresher, Research Tasks are just what this game calls quests. When you spin certain PokéStops, you will be given a quest. These quests often reward you with rare Pokémon that might be hard to find in the wild. There are only three World Tourism Day Research Tasks, but one of them might be the key to getting a shiny Pokémon you couldn't find anywhere else.

World Tourism Day: Make A New Friend - Nosepass

This quest... exists. Maybe Nosepass is really rare in some locations, making it hard to gather the candies needed for Probopass. If that's true for you, then congratulations! This quest will be your best friend. It's worth noting that previous friend-themed quests allowed you to delete a friend and re-add them. You get credit for "making a friend" and your progress doesn't reset so you can keep grinding towards best friend status.

World Tourism Day: Send 25 Gifts To Friends - Lapras

Now this is much better. Lapras is pretty rare and can be shiny. You might already have a shiny Lapras from its raid day. In that case, an extra is always nice. If you missed Lapras raid day or were just unlucky, then this is your second chance. Send those gifts!

World Tourism Day: Trade Pokémon Caught 10,000km Apart - Seviper/Zangoose

This is the winner. Both Seviper and Zangoose are newly shiny. Your region will either have Seviper or Zangoose spawning in the wild. This quest will give you the other one, and it's your only way to get the shiny of your non-regional critter. Without actually being a tourist and flying halfway around the world, that is.

The challenge here is finding someone to trade you a Pokémon caught 10,000km away. To put it in perspective, I as an American must trade for a Japanese Pokémon to fulfill this. Your best bet is to have a world-hopping friend or go to a forum like The Silph Road and swap friend codes with a faraway player. Gifts that give you 7km eggs count, as the Pokémon hatching from these eggs will take on the gift-giver's country of origin. Encourage a nearby friend to do the same, and trade your global hatches with each other. Then, Arceus willing, a shiny will be yours.
