Pokémon trainers come in many different shades of personalities, and the Johto region is known for its vast array of different personalities when it comes to Gym Leaders.

Fans love Generation II's Gym Leaders because they all have unique and different character traits that make them stand out among a lot of characters that were rather boring in the Johto region. The Generation II games wouldn't have been the same without many of the Gym Leaders, as there is so much variety between them.

8 Chuck – Fighting-Type Gym Leader

HeartGold SoulSilver Chuck preparing to battle the player

Chuck is the Fighting-type Gym Leader of Johto, and although he may seem like a tough opponent at first, he really isn't all that impressive in terms of power and personality. One upsetting thing about Chuck is that it seems that his wife misses him because they interact so rarely.

Chuck is an interesting case because he seems to be upset when he loses, although he generally enjoys battling Pokémon a lot. Chuck will vow to train for a straight 24 hours if the person beats him in a Pokémon battle, and he seems to be very stubborn in this way. This stubbornness isn't very attractive as a character trait, and many fans don't like or remember Chuck at all.

7 Falkner – Flying-Type Gym Leader

BAttling Falkner in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

Falkner is one of the weakest Flying-type trainers that players will ever encounter in the Pokémon franchise. Even though Falkner has a Pidgeotto, it is very weak and low-leveled.

Falkner is known for being handsome and stylish by other trainers; however, his appearance doesn't add to his personality at all. This Gym Leader has very little character development throughout the franchise, and fans don't like him very much outside of battles for this reason.

6 Morty – Ghost-Type Gym Leader

Morty was the first Ghost-type Gym Leader to be introduced into the Pokémon series, and he is very impressive in general. Morty is known to hunt after Legendary Pokémon and wants to view the powerful Ho-Oh if he ever gets the chance.

While Morty may be a very powerful trainer, he lacks traits that make him a person that players want to get to know. Unfortunately, Morty has gone down as one of the least interesting Gym Leaders that have been seen in the franchise, and fans have very little to say about him because he isn't very memorable at all. At least Ghost-types are really fun to watch during battles!

5 Bugsy – Bug-Type Gym Leader

Bugsy is an impressive trainer for his age, and he can easily defeat weak Pokémon trainers in the Johto region; however, one single Fire-type Pokémon will usually defeat his entire team without much effort.

Bugsy does have some interesting traits such as the fact that he is a researcher and that he invented the move Fury Cutter, which is an impressive feat even for a Gym Leader. Fans generally find Bugsy fascinating because of his status as a researcher.

4 Clair – Dragon-Type Gym Leader

Clair is one of the most powerful Pokémon trainers in the franchise, and that is because she raises Dragon-type Pokémon that can easily defeat most players and other opponents during battle.

Clair is Lance's cousin, and players will remember him from the Elite Four of Kanto and Johto. Although Clair isn't as strong as Lance, she is very powerful, and what makes her stand out from other Gym Leaders is her firm and serious personality that helps her win most battles. Clair doesn't have too many personal characteristics, but she is a stern woman with a soft spot for Dragon-type creatures.

3 Jasmine – Steel-type Gym Leader

Jasmine helped introduce the new Steel-type into the franchise in Generation II, and fans were excited to get to battle such a powerful trainer. Jasmine also has a lovely personality as she cares a lot for Pokémon, which can be seen when she gives medicine to the Ampharos that is sick in Glitter Lighthouse.

The most notable character trait about Jasmine is that she is shy; however, she easily warms up to people who she can trust and are friendly towards her. All of these things make Jasmine an amazing character, and fans wish that they got to know her better during the Generation II games.

2 Pryce – Ice-Type Gym Leader

Pryce enjoys meditating under a waterfall at least once per day to retain his focus of Pokémon battling. He claims that this is what makes him such a strong trainer and that other people should employ similar meditation techniques if they want to become powerful and wise within the Pokémon world.

Pryce raises Ice-type Pokémon, and his gym is very difficult to take down, especially compared to some of the other Gym Leaders in Johto. Fans won't soon forget Pryce after battling him because he has such a stunning personality, and he stands out in the crowd of Johto trainers.

1 Whitney – Normal-Type Gym Leader

Whitney is easily the best Gym Leader in Generation II, and she is very memorable because of her child-like personality and stand-out style. It is evident by Whitney's appearance that she likes to stay up to date on the latest trends, and her clothing is very fashionable compared to some of the more boring Gym Leaders in Johto in terms of appearance.

Whitney cries whenever she doesn't get her way, and she is very outgoing, although she can act reserved when first meeting new people. Whitney and her famous Miltank are two of the most memorable characters in the Johto region, and most fans realize this immediately after meeting the Gym Leader because of her bright disposition.
