There have been tons of Gym Leaders throughout Pokémon history, and many trainers have grown to love and identify with them over the years. Their personalities are loud and distinct through the Pokémon they use, and the way they carry themselves. Naturally, their distinct personality types end up fitting into one of the twelve zodiac signs perfectly.

Through their actions in the games and anime, twelve of them are especially distinct. If you ever wondered which Gym Leader fits your constellation best, these are the ones that best represent each zodiac sign.

12 Aries (March 21 - April 19): Flannery

Someone as impulsive and eccentric as an Aries needs a fire-type Pokémon to keep up with their heat and energy. Having the bravery to stand out and shoot their shot is an endearing quality that anyone can respect, even if it means they can be a tad reckless.

Flannery might be a new gym leader in Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire, but is a passionate battler who embodies these traits. Her aggression as a battler comes from a place of love and enthusiasm, rather than anger or hatred. Much of her team moves slow, but they pack a powerful punch to make up for it.

11 Taurus (April 20 - May 20): Grant

The most fashionable rock trainer of the Kalos Region is a perfect fit for the stubbornness and persistence of a Taurus. Being firm doesn’t mean you have to be rude, and this sports star exemplifies that through his pursuit of fitness.

Grant is far from an obsessive athlete, though, simply wanting to be fit and healthy. This is a form of determination that Taurus can excel at, as their inability to turn their head is hardly a weakness. This does cause Grant to miss out on dessert, but it’s all for the greater cause of personal health.

10 Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Raihan

Geminis are defined by their dual personalities, bouncing between whatever appearance and attitude fits their situation. In uncertain environments, this can sometimes lead to deception. But in a welcoming space, a Gemini can open up and be the brightest person in the room.

Raihan is all the best parts of a Gemini, reveling in his fame as a Gym Leader to the fullest through mid-battle selfies and playing to the crowd. Through his love for double battles, dragons, and his charming fanged smile, he wants people to feel welcome to express themselves the same way he loves to.

9 Cancer (June 21 - July 22): Whitney

As impressive as it is for Cancers to be in touch with their emotions, this is more often a weakness than a strength. It’s easy for them to wallow in negative feelings and act moody when things don’t go their way, and it can be tough for others to handle such extremes.

Johto’s normal-type expert Whitney is an icon of this unfortunate trait, bursting into tears and refusing to give trainers a badge until she’s calmed down. With a little time, though, Whitney will be able to calm herself to do her job properly, and her extreme lows are always temporary.

8 Leo (July 23 - August 22): Fantina

If you knew an eccentric theater kid in high school, there’s a high chance that they happened to be a Leo. These bright lions are extremely proud of themselves and love to show off, and the stage is the place where others can appreciate them just as much.

There are many Gym Leaders who consider themselves to be performers, but Fantina is one of the most eccentric of them all. From her beautiful ball gown to her love of Pokémon contests, she carries a level of flair and enthusiasm that no other ghost-type expert has.

7 Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Bea

Virgos are typically the biggest perfectionists you’ll meet, trying to keep everything in order at all times. If they can’t control their environment, their lives will immediately become a mess as they struggle to clean things up.

Bea is a determined fighting-type expert who carries this flaw openly, training non-stop with her Pokémon to the point where she refuses help from her Pokémon partners in her Pokémon: Twilight Wings episode. But when things are organized and she’s on track, she’s a talented and unstoppable fighter.

6 Libra (September 23 - October 22): Burgh

A Libra will spend days, perhaps even weeks weighing options before they can make any decisions. This variance can be annoying to deal with, but it also means they’re always thoughtful and considerate, and their final decisions are always the best.

The enthusiastic artist and bug-type leader Burgh fits this through his indecisive gym mazes. He is sure of himself, but there are always more questions he can ask as he creates art and appreciates nature.

5 Scorpio (October 23 - November 21): Clair

Clair Posing Dramatically Green Background

Scorpios have a reputation of being one of the most villainous signs, showing a frightening amount of intensity in everything they do and being capable of stabbing people in the back to get what they want.

Clair revels in her title as Johto’s final Gym Leader, and as the cousin of Johto Champion Lance. Alongside her intimidating dragon-type team, her intensity continues in her refusal to give you the Rising Badge unless you impress her masters in the Dragon’s Den. Accepting loss is not something she wants to do, but will if you can prove your worth.

4 Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21): Brock

This sign belongs to adventurers and explorers, and is most likely to fit someone who’s proud to wander and experience the world. Few Gym Leaders fit this as they have responsibilities in their gym, but many take their role on the road to be more than just a combative statue.

The best case of this is Brock, who’s both the Pewter City Gym Leader and a long-time traveler with Ash in the Pokémon anime. Brock is more than a boss character, loving nature and company as he works to be a fuller person on the road.

3 Capricorn (December 22 - January 19): Wallace

If a Capricorn listened to the original Pokémon theme song, they’d likely only come out of it remembering the lyric “I want to be the very best, like no one ever was.” Success and superiority are their drives in life, and without that success, they’ll never feel accomplished.

Few Gym Leaders fit this ambition like Wallace from Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, who takes the title of Hoenn Champion in Pokémon Emerald. This master from the oceans of Hoenn has obtained that superiority by excelling past his mentor Juan to rule the Pokémon League, and struggles to be modest about his high achievements.

2 Aquarius (January 20 - February 18): Piers

An Aquarius might be cold and rational, but they're far from being an unfeeling robot. They experience emotions just like any other person but are able to keep them in check to do their jobs and take care of their loved ones.

Piers does all of this and more throughout Pokemon Sword & Shield, using Team Yell to support his younger sister Marnie and refusing to move from his hometown of Spikemuth despite his town’s inability to use Dynamax powers. He’s a retired rocker who doesn’t need to pick fights, he just aims to calmly finish his time as a Gym Leader and keep his home safe.

1 Pisces (February 19 - March 20): Jasmine

Opposite to an Aquarius, Pisces are all-feeling and sensitive to the emotions of others. This can sometimes make them seem spacey and unfocused, but in reality, they’re just empathetic and considerate in a way that many signs would be envious of.

Jasmine is pure empathy, taking a break from her responsibility at the Olivine Gym to take care of the lighthouse Ampharos that’s too sick to light up the town. When you help her save this poor Pokémon and get to battle her, she still continues to show support and appreciation for your help. By the time you leave, you’ll have felt blessed to have met her.
