If you happen to live in South America, Southern Florida, or Texas, you may have noticed a lack of Heracross in the wild in Pokemon Go. According to Twitter user, Nicholas Oyzon, they confirmed with Niantic that Heracross has no longer been available in the wild and is only appearing in raids. They explained, “We’ve confirmed with Niantic that this is intentional and Heracross will return to the wild after the Ultra Unlock Part 2 event ends.”

This news has been met with mixed reception, depending on location. While some are unhappy about being forced into a situation where they must go to certain locations to win only a chance at capturing the Pokemon, others see this as fair, since that’s what they would’ve had to do anyway.

However, another notable complaint from fans is that Niantic did not do a blog post or tweet with this information, so players were left to find this out through other well-known Pokemon Go players. Perhaps Niantic could have been more on top of spreading the news, though some feel that this is a minimal enough change that it doesn’t require a separate post.

Players’ emotions may also possibly be heightened already, as Niantic has recently reverted their distances in Pokemon Go to pre-pandemic standards, despite the fact that the pandemic is still very much ongoing. Players were upset about this not only because keeping more distance is generally safer, but also because accessibility is once again lost for those with disabilities. Some even swear to drop the game due to the distance reversions.

Currently, there is a petition for Niantic to keep the pandemic distances in Pokemon Go which has now reached over 168,000 signatures. There isn’t much else players can do besides plead to Niantic, so we’re hopeful that the company will listen. Additionally, the hashtag #HearUsNiantic has also surfaced on Twitter via some of the most notable players in the community, so it’s clear that players are fed up with feeling ignored.
