The Galar region in Pokémon Sword & Shield is based on the United Kingdom and it seems that the DLC is continuing to add more parts of Britain to the series, as it has has been revealed that the Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra are based on real places.

Pokémon art director James Turner confirmed that the Galar region is based on the United Kingdom, though the fans quickly worked that out based on the first trailer. It's clear that the map of the Galar region is the same as the United Kingdom, except flipped upside down. The fans have even managed to work out which UK cities inspired the ones in the Galar region.

Pokémon Sword & Shield is receiving two new areas as part of the Expansion Pass, one of which is called the Isle of Armor and the other is called The Crown Tundra. The Pokémon News UK Twitter page has revealed that the two locations are inspired by places in the United Kingdom, with the Isle of Armor based on the Isle of Man and The Crown Tundra based on Scotland.

The Isle of Man can be found in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. It's unclear exactly how The Isle of Armor and the Isle of Man are related to each, as all of the footage that has been released of the upcoming expansion hints that it has a Japanese theme.

The initial trailers for Pokémon Sword & Shield made it seem as if the starting area was based on Scotland. It turned out that the town of Wedgehurst and the surrounding routes are based on Cumbria, which borders Scotland. It turns out that we haven't seen the Pokémon equivalent of Scotland yet, as that will be The Crown Tundra. The images we have seen of The Crown Tundra so far show a lot of snowy mountains and ancient buildings, so at least it's closer to its inspiration than The Isle of Armor.

The question that fans should now ask themselves is if there will be a third expansion based on Ireland? The Isle of Man could act as the gateway to the Galar version of Ireland, which could have an unintentionally offensive Legendary Pokémon based on a leprechaun and a Gym Leader based on Bono.

Pokemon Sword & Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch. The Isle of Armor will be available in June 2020, while The Crown Tundra will be available in Fall 2020. The Expansion Pass with both DLC costs $29.99/£26.99.
