Pokemon Legends: Arceus is the open world Pokemon game that we’ve always wanted. It has taken all the innovations the Pokemon series has made over the last few years and turned it into a truly stellar game. As you progress through the game and complete your Pokedex, you’ll encounter many characters.

The cast of characters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is one of the best we’ve seen in the series for some time. Some of these characters are more likable than others, but other than the Miss Fortunes, they mostly mean well. These are the best characters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

10 Captain Cyllene

Captain Cyllene in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Captain Cyllene is one of the more serious characters in the game. She’s the player character's boss, and puts a lot of time and effort into her job. Cyllene isn’t much for small talk, preferring to bark orders and fill paperwork instead. At least she gives useful crafting recipes, so it’s not all bad with Cyllene.

One thing many players have missed in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is that a lot of the characters in the game resemble those we’ve seen in previous Pokemon games, and Captain Cyllene is no exception. She resembles Cyrus, the boss of Team Galactic in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

9 Commander Kamado

Commander Kamado in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Commander Kamado is another one of the more serious types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but he does have some personality to him. He’s a very calm and compassionate leader who has taken a liking to the player character. Of course, that still won’t stop him from bossing you around.

If you find that Commander Kamado looks a lot like a character we’ve seen in a previous Pokemon game, you’re spot on. It’s been confirmed that Kamado is actually the ancestor of Professor Rowan, the Pokemon professor of the Generation IV games.

8 Warden Mai

Warden Mai in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Mai is one of the first characters you’ll meet in the game as she watches over the special Wyrdeer in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Her main Pokemon is Munchlax and it's actually one of the rarest Pokemon in the game. In fact, like all Diamond Clan members, she refuses to put her Pokemon in a ball.

Members of the clan believe that Pokemon should be free and not in a Poke Ball most of the time, meaning Mai is a very empathetic and understanding person. Mai bears a striking resemblance to Marley, a Pokemon trainer from the Diamond and Pearl games.

7 Volo

Volo in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Volo is one of the more mysterious characters in the game. He’s a member of the Ginkgo Guild, so he travels around Hisui selling rare items. He’s not shy to fight the player character at any moment and seems to be hiding something. It turns out that he has an obsession with Giratina, a legendary Pokemon who many believe is evil.

On top of that, he resembles Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh in the Generation IV games. They have very similar hairstyles and personalities, so they may be related.

6 Miss Fortunes

The Miss Fortunes in Pokemon Legends Arceus

The Miss Fortunes are the villainous group in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but you can relate to why they do the things they do. Back in Hisuian times, it was hard for a lot of people to get by. Charm, Clover, and Coin all came from nothing and were forced to steal from others to survive.

Whether it’s a rare item or a Pokemon, the Miss Fortunes stole whatever they needed to live another day. In terms of their personality, they like to use puns, and we have to admit that they’re so bad they’re actually hilarious. The Miss Fortunes are some of the best bad guys Pokemon has ever had.

5 Irida

Irida in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Irida is one of the more important characters in the game. As the leader of the Pearl Clan, she often butts heads with Adaman, the leader of the Diamond Clan. Similar to the Diamond Clan, the Pearl Clan also refuses to keep their Pokemon in Poke Balls.

Her main Pokemon is Glaceon, an Eevee evolution introduced in Generation IV, and they have a close relationship. She cares a lot about her Pokemon, which is very endearing. Irida is a bit more cautious around the player character, which makes sense considering they literally fell out of the sky.

4 Warden Arezu

Warden Arezu in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Arezu is one of the most cheerful and positive characters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. While most characters are taken aback by the player character’s presence, she is always supportive and never questions their intentions.

It turns out Arezu trusts herself just as much as others since she often goes off to solve issues on her own, which sometimes gets her into trouble. She resembles Commander Mars, one of the four commanders of Team Galactic in the Diamond and Pearl games, but no relation between the two has been confirmed.

3 Adaman

Adaman in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Adaman is a very charismatic leader and when he speaks, you listen… or read in this case. He does have his concerns about the player character but is willing to step in and help them at a moment’s notice. Adaman is much more welcoming to outsiders than Irida.

While he’s the leader of the Diamond Clan, Adaman does a good job of balancing his responsibilities with having fun. He has a very easy-going personality and is undoubtedly one of the best characters in the game.

2 Akari/Rei

Akari and Rei in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Every Pokemon game needs a rival and that’s the role Akari or Rei plays in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. If you play as a boy, your rival will be Akari. If you play as a girl, your rival will be Rei. They’re friendly rivals that aren’t constantly battling you and being a nuisance, which is a good change of pace. They also have a bit of sassiness to them and that's always welcome as it gives them a bit more personality.

Akari or Rei’s main Pokemon is Pikachu, so you might want to catch one of your own to make sure they don’t overshadow you. You always have to get the jump on your rival.

1 Professor Laventon

Professor Laventon in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Professor Laventon is just a good dude. He’s easily the most likable character in the game, and it’s not particularly close. Despite the fact that the player character literally fell from the sky, Professor Laventon accepted them with open arms.

As the Pokemon professor of the game, he’s all about helping the player character out as much as possible. Professor Laventon is a member of the Galaxy Team who specializes in Pokemon’s modes of life, and he gives the player character their first Pokemon. Laventon is as friendly as they come.
