Pokemon Legends: Arceus is upon us, and no word in the English language better encapsulates its approach to the franchise formula than "unique." Game Freak has bulldozed the comfy house their games are built upon, replaced the empty lot with the bustling Jubilife Village, and hoisted fans into a sprawling — and dangerous — Hisui.

Chief among these dangers are the Noble Pokemon, a group of frenzied foes you'll face off against throughout your adventure. These are some tough customers, and they effectively serve as the regional rulers for each of Hisui's main areas.

But what exactly are Noble Pokemon, and when will your brave journey pit you against them? More to the point, how do you beat them and move on with the story? All these answers and more are yours to behold, Survey Corps recruit!

Noble Pokemon, Explained

In nicer times, Noble Pokemon are worthy of reverence. The people of Hisui harbor great respect toward them, so they enlist the aid of Wardens — specially designated protectors — to ensure the Noble Pokemon can enjoy a comfortable existence.

Noble Pokemon are said to be "mysteriously blessed," which is really quite charming. Less charming is what those eerie space-time distortions can do to them; contact with the mysterious matter triggers our big pals to transform into Frenzied Noble Pokemon. In this form, they become a major threat to the denizens of their domain.

As a member of the Survey Corps and a rather talented member at that, it falls to you to combat these enraged creatures and quell their ire.

Battling Noble Pokemon

Legends Arceus Kleavor

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, even random encounters have a distinctly fresh feeling to them. You're free to move around the field as your partner Pokemon and the one or more wild critters they're up against exchange blows in a more satisfyingly dynamic fashion than ever before.

Not content to leave it at that, Game Freak has gone and turned battling Noble Pokemon into their own flavor of endeavor. Frenzied Nobles cannot be attacked through traditional methods except during certain key moments, so your trusty pals should remain in their Poke Balls for most of the fight.

You must pelt Frenzied Noble Pokemon with soothing balms in order to reduce their affliction. Smacking someone hard with a healing ointment may not sound like the most effective way to dole it out, but the Nobles are by no means slow enough to administer those balms in any other way. In fact, you'll need to make good use of that dodge button throughout the battle as the scary beasts have every intention of knocking you out, not your pets.

Keep on top of the match by recognizing Frenzied Nobles' telegraphed assaults. This isn't exactly Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, so they're typically fairly easy to decipher and consistently avoid. But don't let your guard down, because just a handful of hits can send your otherworldly protagonist flying.

Fights are a matter of attrition. After a few moments, the Frenzied Noble Pokemon tires itself out for a bit, presenting you with an opportunity to unleash your own Pokemon and reduce your opponent's health. Drop its HP bar to zero, and it enters stunned status, giving balms a temporary boost in strength.

Note that you'll need to cycle through these steps multiple times during these climactic encounters. Your ultimate goal is to deplete the Frenzy Gauge, and the Nobles will regenerate some health after their stun wears off, charging at you all over again.

How to Beat Each Noble Pokemon

First, we should note that the rest of this guide contains spoilers on the identities of every Noble Pokemon. Granted, we've already included a picture of the first one, but that's tough to avoid. Some players will prefer to maintain an element of surprise for the remainder.

There are six Frenzied Noble boss battles in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. (The sixth is technically classified a bit differently, but for all intents and purposes, the fight plays out similarly enough.)

Keep scrolling for some insights into each Noble Pokemon that Legends: Arceus has in store for you, including weaknesses and strategies. When we mention Nearby Counters, we're referencing Pokemon local to the Noble's domain that can be used against them to greater effect.

Notes

Kleavor, Lord of the Woods

Level 18 Bug/Rock

Water, Rock, Steel

Oshawott's the best starter against it. Without Oshawott, bring a Bibarel or a Geodude who has evolved into Graveler. Psyduck also works well.

Keep your distance from it, as it will spin around rapidly, dealing extra damage, if you linger nearby for long.

Lilligant, Lady of the Ridge

Level 30 Grass/Fighting

Fire, Flying, Poison, Ice, Psychic, Fairy

If you've chosen Cyndaquil, it should have evolved at this point into at least a Quilava. If you didn't, a Staravia or Kadabra can both be found in their pre-evolved forms not too far away.

Lilligant dodges and rolls about in an almost mocking manner. Play along, doing the same whenever necessary, and jump through the discs she launches at you to reach her faster.

Arcanine, Lord of the Isles

Level 36 Fire/Rock

Water, Ground, Rock, Fighting

Once again, starting the game with Oshawott will give you an advantage here. Otherwise, search close by for Pokemon like Mantine, Buizel, and (surprisingly) even Piplup.

Don't try to hang out on either side of the arena, but don't worry about falling into lava, either. The exception to hanging out at the center comes midway into the duel, at which point the interior fills with flames. Run to the edge.

Electrode, Lord of the Hollow

Level 46 Electric/Grass

Fire, Bug, Poison, Ice

A Zubat who has evolved into Golbat will have a somewhat easier time with Electrode. Heracross is a worthy choice as well. If Cyndaquil was your starter, it should be Typhlosion by now, so feel free to unleash pure carnage.

When you're not sending out an active Pokemon, this entire battle rests on the notion of evasiveness. All that electricity of Electrode's won't stop coming, so dodging is imperative.

Avalugg, Lord of the Tundra

Level 56 Ice/Rock

Grass, Water, Rock, Ground, Fighting

Either Oshawott's final evolution of Samurott or Rowlet's final evolution of Decidueye can be a huge help here. Your best alternative is to raise a Riolu into Lucario. They can both be found at the Alabaster Icelands.

Frenzied Noble Avalugg feels like a Mega Man villain. Stuff's falling down on you constantly, and you're scrambling to evade something like a "bullet hell" game. Just take your time, learn Avalugg's attack patterns, and you'll win.

Dialga, Temporal Pokemon OR Palkia, Spatial Pokemon

Level 65 Dragon/Steel or Water/Dragon

Fighting, Ground (Dialga); Dragon, Fairy (Palkia)

Garchomp and Lucario are both somewhat safe bets. Frankly, just toss out anything highly-leveled that isn't weak against the one you're fighting. You may need to use a few.

No matter which you're battling, their move lineup will look familiar. It's a combo platter of Frenzied Noble moves on a relatively small platform. Just stay out of harm's way whenever possible, using strategies devised against previous bosses.
