Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a Pokemon game unlike any other, and it took the world by storm! It introduced lots of new mechanics that we hope will stick with the franchise, added new regional variants of some fan-favorite Pokemon, and gave us an open-world game for the first time.

Completing the Pokedex in Legends: Arceus is no mere matter of catching 'em all, as the saying goes. This time, on top of catching a lot of them, you actually need to observe the Pokemon doing key activities, using particular moves, eating food, and more! The tips in this article will help you take your beginner Legends Arceus game and bring it to the level of the pros.

7 Spend Your Money On Inventory Space

Bagin from Pokemon Legends Arceus saying "You can carry around even more in that satchel of yours if you learn the trick to packing things in." Both him and the player are standing in the Galaxy Team Headquarters.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, there are tons of enticing things to spend your money on at the start of the game. Considering how short on funds you usually are in other Pokemon games, you'll probably be thrilled at the large sums you can earn in Arceus, but don't get trigger-happy! Don't spend unnecessarily just to get 10 different kimono colors or something - save up, and buy inventory space.

You purchase expansions to your inventory from Bagin the Bag Man inside the headquarters in Jubilife Village. He stands right next to the stairs on the ground floor and calls out to you when you pass by. Though it's annoying to give him all your money, these inventory expansions are critical to your future gameplay. Bagin can sell you way more than you actually need, but you probably need more space than you think you do. Trust us.

6 Experience Sharing Is Balanced

Pokemon Legends Arceus - Experience sharing

There's no experience share item to find in Legends: Arceus as there have been in past Pokemon games; Pokemon automatically share the experience they get! The only exception is when Pokemon get experience by harvesting something in the open world. In that case, only the Pokemon you threw will get that experience.

However, just because experience sharing is automatic doesn't mean it's equal. You'll notice that Pokemon who are drastically lower level than the others in your party will get more experience. This is really good to know later in the game, when you may be trying to raise a particular Pokemon to be the same level as the rest of your party. You don't need to spend your time farming boring, easy, low-level Pokemon.

5 Prioritize A Few Inventory Favorites To Avoid Long Swapping Times

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has a wide range of throw-able goodies that you can store to use in the wild. Some of them will hide you from Pokemon, while others will attract them with their delicious aroma! Be careful not to be too enticed.

In the wild, you won't necessarily have much time to flip between items in your inventory; it can be surprisingly time-consuming. We recommend that you prioritize a few of your favourites and abandon the rest. You'll just wind up lost in an item soup.

4 The Move False Swipe Is Invaluable

If you're not familiar with it, the move False Swipe is an attack that always leaves the defending Pokemon with at least 1 HP. Obviously, this makes it perfect for defeating Pokemon you want to catch! You could fight a level 5 Starly with your level 80 Gallade and, so long as you use False Swipe, you can fight with no worry of accidentally defeating it!

There are plenty of Pokemon in Legends: Arceus that can learn False Swipe. Pick one to add to your party, 'cause there's nothing worse than coming across a Pokemon that you really want to catch but having no Pokemon of the appropriate level, or accidentally killing it on accident.

3 Talk. To. Everyone.

We know that there are a lot of NPCs in Jubilife Village and this tip may seem annoying, but it's actually invaluable. And, it actually refers especially to the people outside Jubilife Village. While there are usually markers indicating which NPCs have quests to give you, some are missing (whether this is on purpose or an accident, we couldn't tell you).

When you come across an NPC in the wild you weren't expecting to find, be sure to chat them up! You may be pleasantly surprised to discover that they have a special request for you. Or, as has happened to us a few times, they may be a part of a request you forgot you'd already picked up!

2 Quick, Stealthy Catches Are Your Best Friend

In the early stages of the game, every catch and battle is thrilling. It's all so fresh and new compared to the rigid Pokemon formula that we're all used to! It will be a long time before you get bored of this. Unfortunately, you will wind up getting bored.

There are so many Pokemon in the open world that having a battle with every single one you want to catch is a serious pain in the ass (and don't even get us started about mass outbreaks). It will be especially frustrating at the end of the game when you're trying to complete the Pokedex.

Trust us and start developing your sneaky skills early. Catching a Pokemon quietly and quickly is a lifesaver. We recommend Smoke Bombs, which are effective when there's no grass close enough to your target, and Feather Balls/Wing Balls/Jet Balls, which have the least arc when thrown.

1 Never Pass Up A Space-Time Distortion

Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Space-Time Distortion Fields, Explained

Space-Time Distortions are brand-new elements, never before seen in a Pokemon game. They start as swirling air but, over time, they become black abysses where strange, foreign Pokemon spawn. When in-game, you'll get an alert if a Space-Time Distortion is forming in the map you're exploring, and then again when it's fully formed.

It's absolutely worth your time to visit these Distortions and stay until they are gone. Not only are there rare Pokemon, including all of the starters and Eeveelutions, but there are also rare items that appear on the ground. These can be useless but valuable things, like Nuggets, or Evolution items like the Black Augurite.
