Rumors were flying around yesterday concerning the supposed identity of the new Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch. These were taken with a grain of salt by many people, due to how little physical proof was being offered.

It seems that these rumors should be taken seriously, as Serebii.net is reporting that the titles for the supposed games have had web domains registered by the same company that registered the domains for Pokémon Sun & Moon.

This has given us our first tangible piece of proof that Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee will be the first mainline console games in the series.

The rumors concerning the new Pokémon games suggest that they have been highly influenced by the unprecedented success of Pokémon Go, with the catching mechanics now being totally changed to match that of the famous smartphone game. How this will work using a controller is unknown right now, but the most likely answer is that you will have to pull back the control sticks like a slingshot.

These rumored changes have already upset the established Pokémon fanbase, who feel that these changes will dumb down the gain in order to reach a mainstream market. This is something of an overreaction, as there is nothing stopping Game Freak from making games in the classic style, especially as Nintendo has promised support for the Nintendo 3DS until 2020. There is still the question of the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes after all.

The change in name has also led fans to believe that these games will be more of a spinoff than full entries in the series. Game Freak hasn't been given a lot of time to develop a full console Pokémon experience, so these Let's Go game may just be an experimental series that can be used to test the water for new ideas.

If the rumors are to be believed, then Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee will also be returning the series to Kanto, which makes sense, considering these games represent a new start for the series. If nothing else, these games will give us a chance to catch up on the setting that many of us experienced for the first time over twenty years ago.

After two years in Alola, it's time to go back home.
