Pokémon is a franchise that has continued to grow and expand with each passing year. With that, the fan base has continued to increase and more and more people are playing the video games and watching the anime than ever before. With a game as far-reaching and as impactful as Pokémon is and has been since the first game release in February 1996 it’s easy to see why so much content by fans has been created. It ranges from some epic game mods to some breathtaking fan arts, with a few doses of fan fiction and hilarious episode dubbing in between. It’s a community that has helped to keep the series alive and has allowed the company to thrive and learn how to better improve.

With constant feedback, the games always seem to be improving in one way or another. While many people might not be too happy with the way some of the Pokémon have gone, overall they are pleased with the games. They have added new elements and made the games a lot more dynamic then when they first started and it’s sure to keep advancing with newer and better systems along the way. Though a lot of fans tend to voice their opinions on the game through reviews and through forum posts, there are artist who like to take things into a different direction. Rather then simply post their concerns with the games they create comics which point out the things in Pokémon that make the least amount of sense. It’s a way to poke fun at the game that they love while also bonding with their fellow gamers.

25 A Surprise Attack

We’ve all ran into those RPG’s that had enemies attack you when you were moving about the open plans. That made sense because there was no telling exactly what type of terrain you were in and it was assumed that you were ambushed or they had simply spotted you. In the world of Pokémon though, things were taken to a whole other level.

At the time when I was playing the games as a kid, I thought nothing of it because I had played so many RPGs with the same dynamic. Looking back on things now though, it seems pretty absurd. I mean think about it, you are attacked by Pokémon that are so tall and so large that there is no way in the world that they should be able to just hide in the grass without you seeing them.

24 So That’s How It Happens

Via: Pinterest.com

In most games, when your party has been defeated its game over and you either have to start all over or continue from your last save point. It makes perfect sense and is completely understandable, but in the Pokémon universe, things are a whole lot different. If you happen to have all of your Pokémon faints during a battle you will end up back at the nearest Pokémon center.

You don’t simply walk yourself back there though; instead, you also faint along with your Pokémon and awaken there. Not only that, but you will lose a certain sum of money, even if you are fighting a wild Pokémon. This is to act as a sort of penalty for losing the battle and it is explained that the reason you dropped money during a battle with a wild Pokémon is that you lose it during your time fleeing away in a panic.

23 Not A Good Game Plan

From the very beginning of the game, you are told the ways in which you can catch Pokémon. You are told that while you can throw a poke ball at any time, it is best to only do so when the Pokémon you are trying to capture has little to no health left. This may seem like an easy task, but you soon find out how difficult it can actually be at times.

We’ve all been there at a time or two. We have a Pokémon down on health and it’s teetering on being just good enough and you are trying to decide what attack to use. We end up picking an attack that’s too strong and it faints. You would think at this point that a fainted Pokémon would be able to be captured, but you would be wrong. It doesn’t make any sense, but I guess it’s there as a sort of difficulty.

22 Tough Break

When you think about it the whole idea of random Pokémon trainers wanting to battle you all the time is a bit strange. Sure, I could see people wanting to challenge you later on as you got good at training Pokémon, but to battle you at random simply because you have made eye contact with them seems a bit odd. Don’t even get me started on Gary’s incessant need to battle you when you are at your worst.

As if this wasn’t odd enough, another dynamic to Pokémon fighting is that the trainers have to exchange money with one another depending on who wins and who loses. It makes sense in a way as it’s understandable that someone would make a wager of some sort. When you think about it though you are not only taking out their whole Pokémon team, but you are also taking money from them, of which I doubt they have an endless supply.

21 Which One Was It Again?

Via: pokemonmeme.com

Starting out on your Pokémon Journey you don’t have a whole lot of Pokémon so it would be easy to be able to separate them and know which one was which. Overtime though you would accumulate more and more and even if your party size was limited in some way, there would be no way for you to really know which one was which.

There isn’t any color coding or any markings that distinguish one Pokémon from the next that we know of given that isn’t never mentioned in the manga or the anime. I prevailing theory is that the reason Ash calls out the Pokémon is that he is assigning it to that Poke ball and it is simply transferred into it. This seems pleasurable until you realize that he carries around multiple Poke balls all the time.

20 Pretty Much As Expected

Via: deviantart.com(thechinesepalmtree)

One of the coolest things about the Pokémon games is that your Pokémon can learn the ability to fly and, as a result, they can help to carry you to faraway places fast. This means that you don’t have to fight all those pesky Pokémon along the way and you can avoid the majority of the trainers who have a bone to pick with you.

While this is certainly awesome and it saves you a whole lot of time, it isn’t without some serious flaws. When you get right down to it, the fact is that most flying Pokémon couldn’t carry you in real life even if they wanted to. You’re just too heavy and they won’t have the strength to carry you. Sure, there are large flying Pokémon that could do it, but the small ones wouldn’t be able to in reality.

19 Never An Easy Task

Via: Pinterest.com

Whether it be a legendary Pokémon or just your run of the mill Pokémon, sometimes the best-laid plans are all for not and you just aren’t able to capture the Pokémon no matter what you do. You get its health down as far on the edge of fainting as you need to get and throw a poke ball in the hopes of getting it.

Suddenly, the game tells you that you missed. You try again and again and again and yet you get the same result. You try to up things by going and getting better Poke balls hoping for a different result to no avail. For whatever reason, at that moment and at that location, the game just didn’t want to allow you to catch that Pokémon.

18 Not Exactly Ideal

Via: Pinterest.com

When it comes to battling other Pokémon you can pretty much do it anywhere within the Pokémon universe. There aren’t really a lot of limitations one way or the other. I never really thought about the complexity of sea battles much when playing the games because I didn’t have too many to speak of in the first place. I guess I just kind of assumed that when a sea battle occurred, both trainers knew how to swim and that explained how their water based Pokémon could fight without helping them.

The older I got though, the more I thought about it and it isn’t just the fact that two trainers are fighting, it’s the fact that you are able to fight using Pokémon who don’t even have the ability to surf. How exactly are these Pokémon supposed to be able to battle? Surely there isn’t enough room on the surfing Pokémon for them to battle one another.

17 Didn’t Think Things Through

Via: deviantart.com(8-bitWatermelon)

Staying on the water Pokémon trend for a moment, there’s something else that really bothered me about the games. While your water type Pokemon can learn surf it can also learn a move called dive. On the surface, this might not seem to strange until you realize that there is no where for you, the trainer, to go when the Pokemon does do a dive.

The game itself states that you need to be on a surfing Pokémon to cross the water and to stay afloat. If this is indeed the case then how is it that you can request that the same Pokémon use a dive move during a battle? Where exactly are you during this dive? Are we to assume that you quickly put on scuba gear before going out into the water and if so, how come you need to use surf?

16 So Far Away

Via: deviantart.com(BummerForShort)

I’m sure everyone remembers looking for hidden items in their free time messing around in the games or seeing items on ledges that they wanted to get. On more than one occasion I can remember standing next to a ledge with my character that seemed to be within arms reach and yet your character could not simply reach out and take the item. It was as if the ledge was a mile high and you would have to leap to be able to get it.

You would think that given all of the Pokémon at your disposal that you would be able to acquire these items easily, but the fact is that you can’t do that, you have to find your way around and worse yet, if you happen to fall down a ledge you don’t have a way back up unless it can be leaped using your bike.

15 A Hidden Strength

Via: Pinterest.com

Your Pokédex is pretty useful and gives you a lot of important information about each Pokémon that you come across. You can learn about what their strengths and weaknesses are and you can even learn a little bit about their habits. Along with that, you can learn a little bit about their history and also specific identifiers like their height, gender, and even weight.

It’s a cool feature and it gets you involved with the game to be sure. That being the case though, it does get you to start raising questions about the logic within the game and anime all over again. How is it that you can carry all of those heavy Pokémon without breaking a sweat? Better yet, how can ash carry around all those Pokémon or have them sit on his head as if they weight as much as a feather?

14 A Harsh Reality

Via: imgur.com

Though we don’t know a ton about what goes on inside of a poke ball, there are hints dropped here and there. While nothing is really concrete, it is sort of implied within the show that the Pokémon are simply asleep inside the poke ball and only awaken once the trainer decided to use them in battle or let them out.

Since this isn’t one hundred percent confirmed we can’t really be sure though. For all we know there could be an entire home within the poke ball for the Pokémon to live. It stands to reason to given that most of the Pokémon seem relatively happy one they exit it from time to time. I mean you would think if it was truly that bad inside one that the first thing that a Pokémon would want to do when exiting is run or fly away.

13 A Selective Memory

Via: deviantart.com(thegamingdrawer)

There has been a point in time in everyone’s life where they have forgotten a person’s name. In these instances, it is understandable given that for the most part, they are people that the person doesn’t meet on a daily basis. It’s just the way our brain works and some people are better with names than others.

That’s why it’s so incredible that Professor Oak can remember all of the Pokémon in existence as well as other people names and yet for some reason he can’t remember his own grandson’s name. The fact that this is even remotely possible is laughable, but again, for most of us when we played the games this was the last thing we were thinking about. To make matters worse, you get to rename him and Professor Oak calls him that from then on.

12 You Think They’d Move

Via: deviantart.com(Gabasonian)

We’ve already touched a bit on the fact that it is rather strange that so many random trainers want to pick battles with you. While this in itself is manageable and can be chalked up as just part of the game, there are instances that really make you scratch your head in disbelief. Not only can trainers challenge you while you are under the water, but they can even challenge you while you are speeding along on your bike.

They don’t just wave you down and you stop in reaction, oh no, they get in front of you and block your path. They make sure that you’re making eye contact so that they can get that all-important battle from you no matter what. Who cares if you have better things to do, they want to battle!

11 Fish Out Of Water

Via: deviantart.com(purplemagechan)

Your hands are shaking and you are finally able to face your rival. You have assembled the perfect team to take him or her down and you are ready to battle. There is nothing in the world that could pull you away from the jaws of victory and it’s only a matter of time before they taste defeat. Well, almost nothing that is.

You see there’s this strange thing about Pokémon that it not only allows you to use land Pokémon in the water, but also the reverse. Yep, that’s right, the game for some reason or another lets you use Pokémon like Goldeen on land, because what fish needs to be in water to survive? According to the Pokémon universe water is simply optional and isn’t really required. Even though that’s exactly where you found said Pokémon when you caught it in the first place.

10 Why Just One?

Via: Pinterest.com

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. You fire up your Nintendo handheld fully ready to conquer the Pokémon universe and become the best Pokémon trainer there ever was. You’re ready to prove to the rest of the universe and your rival, that you truly are the best Pokémon trainer out there. First things first though, you’ve got to pick that all important first Pokémon, but the good news is you have three choices.

What’s that you say? You want to be able to take all three of the Pokémon before you and start a miniature party so that you are better prepared on your adventure? Yeah, sorry that’s just not going to happen for you. So what if the person offering them to you isn’t using them and is offering one to you with the sole purpose of you completing an argues task, it’s not in the cards man, sorry.

9 Fly, Fly Away

Via: Pinterest.com

Yep, we’ve reached that point again where you begin to ask yourself, just what were the designers of Pokémon thinking when they made this game? Maybe the whole point was for you to question things and to point out the faults in logic throughout the game to engage yourself more. Sure, that’s it; it has to be the real reason behind it all.

You finally did it, you finally caught that all important winged Pokémon and pretty soon you will be able to teach it to fly and take you to places you never imagined. Oh wait, ouch sorry, turns out that even though that Pokémon clearly has wings it’s never going to learn to fly. Don’t worry though, chin up, you can always use an extremely undersized Pokémon like Pidgeot to take you where you need to go.

8 Just Walk Around

Via: Pinterest.com

You’ve come so far in your journey and you’ve caught all sorts of Pokémon along the way. You’ve outsmarted your opponents and even bested some of the best gym leaders in the Pokémon universe along the way. You understand the differences in Pokémon, there strengths and their weaknesses, it’s only a matter of time before you truly are the best there ever was.

Slight problem though, you see that sleeping Snorlax over there? Yeah, you’re going to have to get a flute from some old guy and play it in order to wake the Snorlax up so that you can then capture it so it’s no longer blocking your path. What’s that? You want to capture it now while it’s still asleep as that seems easier? What are you mad? Get out of her with your logical nonsense.

7 No Wings Required

Via: devuabtart.net(pokemon_master)

It’s true: you should never judge a book by its cover and in the Pokémon universe that also holds true. In another well-planned effort to mess with us as gamers, the designers of Pokémon decided that it would be a really good idea to put no physical bases on a Pokémon’s abilities at all. This way, just when you thought you had it all figured out, wham, another curve ball to throw things all out of whack.

It’s simple enough, right? If it has wings it can fly, if it lives in the ocean then surely it can surf, because well it has to. Wrong again, if it has wings it can’t always fly and even if it doesn’t who cares? We never told you that it was a requirement to have wings in the Pokémon universe to be able to fly.

6 Things Got Dark Fast

Via: Pinterest.com

In the wild animals eat each other all the time. It’s just a fact of life and it’s just part of the ecosystem. While the Pokémon universe might be different compared to ours in many ways, the fact is that the Pokémon still have to eat. In more than a few cases that means that they will be eating each other. Sure, there are cases where Pokémon don’t eat each other, but there are also many Pokedex entries that are clear that they eat each other.

That’s why it’s a really good thing that the company didn’t implement what we see happening in this comic. Even though we know that it happens in the wild between Pokémon, it would make the game really dark if we could consume other Pokémon with ours.
