Ken Sugimori is famous for his role as art director and character designer for the Pokemon franchise. From what is already known from interviews, Sugimori gets a lot of his inspiration from animals in aquariums and zoos.
He has worked on many movies as well as the games. In that sense, Lucario is very on-brand to Pokemon due to being made by one of the major designers.
6 It Is One Of The Only Fighting-Types That Can Learn Psychic
Unless a Fighting-type is also Psychic-type, it typically cannot learn the move Psychic. However, that is not true for Lucario. The only other Pokemon that shares this trait is Poliwrath.
The reason most Fighting-types cannot use Psychic is because they are weak to Psychic-types and Psychic-types are also weak to Psychic-types. With the move Psychic, a Fighting-type with a higher speed can eliminate their own weakness by taking down the Psychic-type with Psychic.

The death and mortality of Pokemon is one of the greatest mysteries the games, anime, and manga has given its fans. In the anime, death is usually avoided. In the movie, Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew though, fans actually got a Pokemon death.
Not only was it a Pokemon death, but it is one that does not have a Legendary status and does not get restored to life either.
