Every single Pokémon type brings something different to the table. Whether you’re dealing damage, inflicting status ailments or being a wall for your team, every type has a wide range of strategies to pull from.

Similarly to Pokémon typings, the MBTI personalities all utilize different strategies and ideas to be the best they can. That’s why it makes perfect sense to pair the types and MBTI personalities to show which of these pair well together. Whether it be analytical dark types that suit you or the surprising ground type, let’s jump into which type fits your personality best.

18 Fire - ESTP

As an ESTP, you need to get out there and go. As a Fire-type trainer, that’s exactly what you’ll be doing. You’re always going to be doing big damage no matter what, so why sit there and think about what needs to be done? Hey, you might even land a burn! Fire Pokémon tend to be quite aggressive and energetic, which is a perfect fit for ESTP.

17 Water - ENTJ

The leader of any party, water types are strong options to open and close battles. They have the ability to inflict status, deal damage or heal, and are consistent in whatever role you need to be filled in a team. Calm and rational, they always know how to sneak in damage onto the opponent, making them a surefire contender for your team. Their water-attacks can also be quite imaginative.

16 Grass - ESTJ

Grass-types and ESTJs go hand in hand. They are (literally) the roots of your party, and will make sure that everyone is feeling strong and steady as the battle progresses. They always have a bag of tricks and spores up their sleeve to make sure that they’re up to the task.

15 Dark - INTP

As an INTP Dark-type trainer, you’ll be playing mind games with your opponent. You’re always thinking one or two steps ahead, never to be outdone. Your opponent has no idea what’s coming for them. On the other hand, you know exactly their plans and will make sure that they go awry.

14 Psychic - ENFJ

As a very feeling type of Pokémon, psychics know how to work with (or against others). Read them, and figure out their strategies, it’s completely natural for your team. Keep a sharp eye out for what the opponent could be planning, but that’s not too much of a concern. You surely have a plan cooked up that they won’t see coming.

13 Fighting - ENFP

As a fighting ENFP type trainer, you’re not thinking inside of the box, you’ve already punched your way out of it. You know exactly what it is you want to do, and who you’re facing off against plays no role in that plan. Why should they? You already know that it’s going to work.

12 Ice - ISFJ

As an ISFJ, you’re going to want to make sure that the rest of your party is okay, and with Ice-type Pokémon, you’ll make sure of that. No one is going to get to your team when you’re busy freezing and dealing damage left and right. Throw in a couple of passive abilities, especially ones dedicated to lowering an enemy's attack power, and the Pokémon is an ideal ISFJ.

11 Ground - ISTP

As a ground type trainer, your opponent might think that they know what to expect from you, but do they have another thing coming. Up, left, right or underground, where you are, and what you’re doing is a mystery to your opponent. Keep up that element of a surprise to throw off your opponent and make a winning strategy.

10 Electric - ISTP

Similarly to the aforementioned Ground-type, as an electrical force, your opponent won’t know what hit them. Whether you’re a glass cannon, a tank, or an all-around threat; as an electric type, you could be planning anything, leaving your opponent in the dark as to what to do next. ISTP love to take risks and think outside of the box, while Electric-type Pokémon can be quite creative.

9 Bug - INFP

While you might seem closed-off at first, it’s really because you’re too busy thinking up the best strategies to take down opponents to talk.

Calm, cool and always collected, the INFP bug type trainer is one that any and all challenges need to take seriously. Underestimation is just begging for a loss.

8 Rock - ESTP

Breaking things left and right sounds like a job for a Rock-type, and an ESTP. No need to think too much, as you’re constantly taking down your opponents. Not even the flying types will be able to escape from your fiery personality. ESTP are social beings who aim to mix logic with emotion. Rock-types are grounded creatures who put their bodies and minds on the line.

7 Fairy - ESFJ

As an ESFJ, you’re loved by everyone! And is that maybe because your team has a super-effective typing against dragons? As a Fairy-type trainer, you’re strong and consistent. You’re a dependable powerhouse that your team can always rely on, through thick and thin.

6 Flying - ISFP

As a flying type trainer, the sky really is the limit. You don’t know what’s going to happen day to day or battle to battle, but that’s okay! You’ll get it all figured out. At some point. Whether you’re soaring up for a Fly attack or prepping your Brave Bird, the opponent that you’re taking down is in for a whirlwind of a battle.

5 Poison - ENTP

A Poison-type Pokémon is often one that is underutilized. However, that doesn’t make you any less deadly. In fact, as an unknown quantity, your opponent might have no idea what tactics you plan on using against them.

You have a piece of extreme competitive knowledge and edge, don’t let it go to waste.

4 Normal - ISTJ

The good old standard, normal types. You’re a bit harder to figure out than any other type, but when put to good use, you’re a force to be reckoned with. You have access to a little something from every type up your sleeve, making you a dangerous foe to go against. Keeping your opponent on their toes is something that you’re able to do with ease.

3 Ghost - INFJ

As a ghost type trainer, you’re analytical. Nothing is getting past you. You’re not one to just sit there and deal damage. You’re busy confusing and paralyzing in between. You know that there’s more to battling than meets the eye, and you’re going to capitalize on that knowledge.

2 Dragon - ESFP

Who better to take center stage than a dragon type trainer? Loud and boisterous, you’re always making a scene, and for good reason, too. The other types fear you, as they should. Use that enormous power of yours to take them down with ease.

1 Steel - INTJ

As a secretive steel-type, you’re fine with waiting in the back of the party, until it’s absolutely necessary for you to strike. When you do arrive, the opponent better be wary, you’ve had this fight figured out from the beginning.
