Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is currently in theaters in Japan! The Pokémon Company has teamed up with Baskin-Robbins for a selection of Pokémon-themed ice cream desserts to promote the movie. In a bit of an unfortunate turn, two of these cakes wouldn't look out of place in a world where Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs is a Pokémon trainer.

Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is a CGI remake of the first Pokémon movie. It includes some differences from the original, such as Mewtwo's robotic armor having a different design and the Golem that Ash's Pikachu knocked out with a Thunderbolt being replaced with a Drowzee to address a plot hole from the original. There is currently no word of an official English localization of Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, but references to the film have been made in Pokémon Go.

In order to celebrate the release of Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution in Japan, Baskin-Robbins is releasing a line of Pokémon-themed ice creams and desserts. According to Famitsu, these include cones with little chocolate Pokémon heads, small ice cream cups with Pikachu-shaped spoons, and a variety pack of ice creams in wrappers.

The most delicious/disturbing parts of the promotion are ice cream cakes in the shape of either Eevee or Pikachu's head. The inside of Pikachu's skull contains strawberry ice cream, while the flesh within Eevee's head contains a delicious mix of caramel and milk chocolate ice cream.

It's strange that there would exist ice cream cakes in the shape of Pokémon heads as part of an official promotion for a Pokémon movie, but it's not unheard of for companies to use marketing in this way. Square Enix has sold "Chocobo Burgers" at events before, while rice dishes in the shape of a fat chocobo's head have been sold at the Eorzea Cafe in Japan as part of the menu that contains dishes from Final Fantasy XIV.
