Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX is coming to the Switch console on March 6, and fans are getting really excited to adventure through dungeons as a Pokémon. Some are veterans who have played the original Mystery Dungeons games while others are totally new to this franchise.

Most of what can be expected from this game is straight from the original Blue and Red Rescue Team games. After all, it is a remake. Not everyone has played those games though. Even veterans don't completely know what to expect either, as the old game has been severely updated. Here is what we know to expect so far.

10 Has An Auto Mode

The updated mechanics really simplify the game. In a dungeon, a player can press the L button to activate an "auto mode." That will make the characters automatically move through the dungeon, pick up items, and find the stairs. However, combat will make them snap out of that mode and you will need to manually instruct the characters again.

Combat also has the feature, allowing to you just press a button and it randomly selects an attack for you. So you don't have to always choose between four moves if you don't feel like it.

9 Transferable Demo

If you don't already know about the demo, then you can download it now! It's free and shows you the beginning of the game. You get to take the quiz to see what Pokémon you are (which is quite fun on its own), select and meet your partner, and go on a couple of rescue missions together.

The best part? Once the game actually releases in March, you can transfer your demo data to it so that you don't have to play the beginning all over again.

8 Can Have Up To Eight Teammates In A Dungeon

This is an update that is different from the original games. Eight is way more Pokémon than the Red and Blue Rescue Team games let you bring. In fact, that is even more Pokémon than you would find on a typical trainer's team.

What this update does make us wonder is if the game's difficulty is going to spike. At least picking out your favorite team members will be fun.

7 Other Players Can Rescue You

If you have friends that also have a Nintendo Switch, then you're in great luck! If they also play Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX, then they can save you if you die in a dungeon.

For non-veteran players, let us say that this can be crucial to your mental well-being. Some dungeons go really deep, over hundreds of floors. So dying can really be a bummer since it can make you have to start all over. If your friend saves you, you can then start from where you left off.

6 Can Encounter And Recruit Shiny Pokémon

Shiny Pokémon are not exactly unheard of in the Mystery Dungeon franchise. A shiny Celebi was in fact a major character at one point. However, randomly encountering shiny Pokémon in dungeons was not a thing in the original games.

However, this remake has confirmed that shinies can be encountered. If you go to the settings and look at items, then you can find the "Friend Bow" which makes recruiting Pokémon easier, and it mentions that "Shiny Pokémon will want to join you, too."

5 Can Use Projectiles In Fights

Mystery Team DX World

Veterans already know this, but new players might find this mechanic strange. Instead of using your Pokémon powers, you can actually just throw things at other Pokémon. This includes rocks, seeds, and more. Some of these items can cause status afflictions, which is super useful. Others can heal you though, so be sure that you are throwing the right item at an enemy.

These items are especially useful if you want to hit an enemy from a long distance but have no ranged moves.

4 Hunger Mechanics

Hunger is always a terrifying mechanic, but don't worry, you get used to it in the Mystery Dungeon franchise. As your characters stroll through dungeons, each step is an increase in your hunger meter. The game will warn you when you are hungry, and especially when you begin to starve.

Just be sure to stock up on apples, big apples, and other edible items. Hopefully you'll never have to resort to eating status affliction seeds as an act of desperation to prevent starvation.

3 Randomized Dungeon Layouts

You never enter the same dungeon layout twice. That is part of what makes Mystery Dungeon so fun -- exploring!

It also provides challenge, as you never know how big or small your trip through a floor can be. They often get more complex as you level up through the game. They also contain traps.

2 Can Choose Which Pokémon You Want To Be If You Don't Like The Quiz Result

Blue and Red Rescue Team had many players take the quiz over and over until they got the Pokémon they wanted. Thank goodness that we don't have to resort to that this time. You still have to take the quiz, but only once. It will tell you which Pokémon you are, but then offers you the choice to accept the results or not. If you don't, then you just get to choose from all of the options.

Also note that which type you are will change what your house looks like!

1 It's A Remake Of Blue Rescue Team And Red Rescue Team

What we can most expect in the story and mechanics of this game is what we've already seen in Blue and Red Rescue Team. In the trailers, veterans players have already recognized major characters from the original story.

Based on the fact that the game is a remake, the epilogue will also be lengthy and there will be a ton to do to keep yourself entertained.
