The Pokémon franchise attracts people for various reasons, whether it be those who love role-playing games or others who like the cute and/or cool looking creatures. Everyone has their own reason for jumping in, whether it be with the original pair of games, or most recently with Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Fans often discuss how cool it would be if pokémon were real as if they could be real-life pets you could cuddle with and adore. Let's take a look at the cuddliest pokémon from every generation, with a few extras to fill out the list.

10 Yamper (Gen 8)

The 8th generation of games may not be a year old yet, but that doesn't mean that the world hasn't already fallen in love with many of the pokémon native to the Galar region. One of these such critters is the new electrified canine named Yamper.

This adorable yellow corgi not only acts much like a puppy in real-life but sports a heart-shaped tuft of fur on its rump. Its evolution is kind of plain and lacks any sort of creativity in its design, so you'd be best giving your Yamper an everstone and letting it be a small cuddle partner for the rest of its life.

9 Rowlet (Gen 7)

The first, but certainly not last starter pokémon on this list is the grass-type starter from the Alolan Islands, Rowlet. Not often are owls considered the types of animals humans would want to cuddle with, but the recent advent of owl cafes across the world has ingratiated this species of bird with humans in a brand new way.

On top of its bulbous body shape, Rowlet also has a pair of lovingly large eyes and a bowtie on its collar that's made to resemble leaves pointing in opposite directions. Rowlet may have won, but Litten was a very close second-place finisher.

8 Skiddo (Gen 6)

Many fans consider the 6th generation of games, that being Pokémon X & Y, to be the series low-point. Despite those opinions, the Kalos region was still home to a number of new pokémon trainers fell in love with.

Skiddo is a goat pokémon that serves as a mode of transportation in the games. Its design resembles a brown goat with elements distorted in order to increase its cuteness overall, and it also has a wreath-like mane that circles around its entire neck. Think of it as less of a goat. and more like an exotic dog.

7 Whimsicott (Gen 5)

This entry will likely be the most contentious as there's a large amount of the Pokémon fandom that adores both Tepig and Oshawott. When deciding who the best cuddle buddy from the 5th generation was, there was one clear answer that rose above the rest. Whimsicott is the final form of Cottonee, and a grass/fairy dual-type players can acquire early in their adventure.

It sports a giant mane of cotton on its head that looks like the fluffiest pillow in all of existence. Trainers who don't have a cotton allergy would find befriended a Whimsicott a mutually beneficial relationship.

6 Shinx (Gen 4)

The Pokémon Company and GameFreak do an excellent job at including pokémon in every generation that have the traits of cats and dogs. This is because their goal is to make aesthetically pleasing creatures players want to capture and evolve.

Humans have a connection with canines and felines that extends over the many years of domestication. This is why Shinx is the best choice out of the 4th generation since it looks like a tiny cat/dog hybrid that happens to be light blue and yellow. It also happens to have a tail with a tiny golden star at the end of it.

5 Mudkip (Gen 3)

Unlike many of the other generations, the third one that takes place in the Hoenn region, has a set of 3 starters that all look like they could have taken this slot. Mudkip, the water-type starter, is the one who got the nod and made it as the cuddle representative of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

It got the edge when compared to Treeko and Torchic because it looks like the one who would be the least awkward to cuddle with. Torchic really doesn't have arms or wings quite yet and Treeko sports a rather large tail that could get in the way.

4 Sentret (Gen 2)

How does a pokémon who clearly looks like it was inspired by My Neighbor Totoro gets as underappreciated and overlooked as Sentret has? This bulbous fur monster clearly is one of the softest creatures in the entirety of the Johto region, yet trainers refuse to capture and train this thing.

Unfortunately for Sentret, it was designed as the second generation's Rattata and Raticate which left it with a normal-typing and not much else. Thankfully for Sentret typing doesn't mean a thing when you're trying to consider which pokémon would be the cuddliest of a given generation.

3 Growlithe (Gen 1)

Growlithe is the first of three Kanto region pokémon that made the list, so all of those first-generation haters should be prepared. Like previously mentioned, over hundreds of years humans have developed a special bond with cats and dogs and find them naturally appealing.

Growlithe takes physical traits from both felines and canines and mashes them up into a lovable hybrid. Its face resembles that of a dog, but its fur and hair growth mimics that of tigers and lions which are of the feline variety. Growlithe is also the only one on this list that gets more cuddly when it evolves.

2 Pikachu (Gen 1)

When Detective Pikachu released its first trailer many fans were confused by the 3-dimensional rendering of everyone's favorite electrified rodent. It was sport fur made up of short hairs all over its body. Despite it making the most sense, the fact that Pikachu always looked so smooth made it so it never registered as normal fur found on mammals.

Taking that into account alongside Pikachu's average size means that it can perfectly fit inside the arms of most humans as they bring it close and cuddle it with a strong hug. History has shown that a Pikachu will clearly let you know when it's over hugging, so be careful.

1 Eevee (Gen 1)

The ironic thing about Eevee is that despite it looking like it may have the softest fur in the entire franchise, almost all of its evolutions become less ideal when it comes to cuddling.

Since Eevee represents the evolutionary base in which the Pokémon franchise rests upon, it's a reasonable assumption to make that if not for Pikachu, Eevee could have ascended to the place as the franchise's mascot. Eevee is not only super fluffy, but it's like the Pokémon equivalent to a Chihuahua, except it won't drive owners and those that visit said owner insane.
