Pokémon fans have come to love and appreciate the Galar region that was introduced in Pokémon Sword & Shield in late 2019. Over this short period, fans have already started building fandoms surrounding their favorite new pokémon that are native to the Galar region.

For every new fan favorite, though, there's a pokémon that gets overlooked or underappreciated for a variety of reasons. Let's now take the time to look at and rank the 10 most underappreciated pokémon from the Galar region featured in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

10 Sirfetch'd

Sirfetch'd isn't underrated as fans have been clamoring for Farfetch'd from the first generation to receive some love in any capacity for years now. The game designers knew how beloved it was going to be as well as they made the process of evolving a Galarian Farfetch'd into a Sirfetch'd quite a task.

At the end of the day, companies don't owe the audience anything, but when prayers are answered it should be appreciated. The Pokémon Company and GameFreak are far from perfect, but Sirfetch'd should never be taken for granted.

9 Greedent

You may be asking yourself why Greedent is on this list when it's a normal-type pokémon you encounter early in the game and never becomes powerful. Those questions are valid as Greedent is the type of creature you won't be your team powerhouse, and really should battle at all when you think about it.

In the same breathe though it's a chubby little mammal with an adorable face you can't help but love. It may not win you any battles, but it could be an excellent cuddle partner when you're ready to go to bed after a long day of training.

8 Copperajah

It's always felt odd that despite elephants being some of the most popular animals on Earth, they've never really been featured in the Pokémon franchise. Outside of Phanpy and Donphan, who are equal parts elephant and boar, there was no pure elephant pokémon before the introduction of Cufant and Copperajah in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

It's a shame that both its base design and Gigantamax form are a bit too busy and the overall design isn't stellar. On the bright side, Copperajah may be the beginning of a trend of elephant-inspired pokémon we see in the following generations.

7 Duraludon

A lot of Pokémon fandom surrounding which pokémon become popular often has to do with the aesthetics of the creature. Competitive battlers might look at stats and such, but generally, beloved pokémon are found with the eyes.

Duraludon isn't exactly the best-looking pokémon, but its steel and dragon dual-typing in addition to its impressive Gigantamax form should earn it more respect from the fans. This oddly shaped thing manages to transform into a giant skyscraper when in Gigantamax form and towers over its opponents.

6 Obstagoon

In the last couple of generations of Pokémon games, some of the best additions have been region-specific variants of already existing pokémon, as well as new evolutions for those regional variants. In the Galar region not only did Zigzagoon and Linoon get a makeover, but they also acquired a third form and evolution named Obstagoon.

This normal and dark dual-type exudes rockstar energy and is an obvious reference to the classic rock band Kiss. It shouldn't go unnoticed that a forgettable pokémon from Generation 3 received a second life in the Galar region.

5 Flapple

It'd be disingenuous to not admit to the fact that the idea of an apple/dragon hybrid pokémon is a bit of a crazy idea. With both Flapple and Appletun, they seem to pull it off somehow, with the former being the better overall design.

The grass and dragon dual-type can be acquired quite easily in Pokémon Sword, but those playing Pokémon Shield will need to acquire it via trade. Its Gigantamax form isn't necessarily the coolest or most impressive in the Galar region, but feasting your eyes on a giant apple with a dragon calling its core home isn't anything to sneeze at.

4 Hatterene

Hatterene and its entire evolutionary line have been overlooked among all of the new pokémon native to the Galar region. This pastel-colored witch queen not only happens to be a dual-type which is always strategically advantages, but it also happens to have a respectable color variant via its shiny form.

Its dual-typing of fairy and psychic isn't new or exciting, but that doesn't mean it isn't solid. Hatterene, according to the pokédex, is capable of reading emotions of other living creatures from over 30 miles away and will act on any feelings of hostility.

The Pokémon franchise often gets a lot of criticism for a supposed lack of creativity as the years have gone on, but Falinks is a shining example of it still being full of possibilities. Falinks is a fighting-type pokémon that's comprised of six individual creatures working together as one entity.

Out of the six, five of them are troopers, and the sixth is the leader and known as the brass. They're very regal and honorable creatures who abide by the word of the brass no matter what. They really on each other, so teamwork isn't just appreciated, it's their way of life.

2 Centiskorch

The reason a pokémon like Centiskorch goes under the radar almost always has to do with how it looks and its typing. Looks-wise it happens to be a creature most people find off-putting, even in a fictitious world of fantastical creatures.

In terms of its typing, most people don't flock towards bug-types and the sad reality is a lot of people pick the fire-type starter, which means they do not need another fire-type in their party. Centiskorch is a neat pokémon and it doesn't hurt that its Gigantamax form resembles a Chinese dragon.

1 Orbeetle

It should come as no surprise that a bug-type pokémon comes in at the top of a list centered around the most underrated pokémon in a given region. Orbeetle is a psychic and bug dual-type, who players can encounter and catch early via its base form named Blipbug.

Its dual-typing offers strategic advantages and the fact that it can be caught early and grow alongside the trainer is invaluable. It also happens to have arguably the coolest Gigantamax form as the telepathic ladybug turns into a living pokémon alien spaceship.
