The Lord of the Rings was always a popular set of books, but the film trilogy of the early 2000s made it a pop culture phenomenon. With Amazon recently finishing production on their television show based on the franchise, the fables of Middle-Earth are set to return to the forefront of entertainment.

Fans of Pokemon love pairing fictional characters with their favorite Pokemon from all generations and The Lord of the Rings is no different. It's time to look at 10 Pokemon, through Pokemon Sword & Shield, that resemble characters from The Lord of the Rings.

10 Galadriel/Gardevoir

galadriel gardevoir

The land of Middle-Earth does a great job at depicting elves as these majestic and ethereal beings who see the world from a different perspective given their longevity. Galadriel was the Lady of Lothlorien and was considered one of the most powerful elves to ever exist. She walked with a light foot and was magically captivating. The only Pokemon with this same type of energy is Gerdevoir, the feminine Psychic and Fairy-type from the 3rd generation of Pokemon games, those being Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

9 Denethor II/Slowking

denethor slowking

Denethor II was the king of Gondor and the father of Boromir and Faramir. He was a mad king that denounced Aragorn from being king and believed that Sauron was a force that was unstoppable and simply was inevitable no matter the effort provided by those opposing him. It may be unfair to compare the Pokemon Slowking to Denethor II, but they both wore crowns and look quite aloof at moments. The Water and Psychic-type may not be as crazy, but would certainly play the character in a Pokemon parody of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

8 Legolas/Blaziken

legolas blaziken

When looking for a Pokemon that resembled the femininely handsome beauty of Legolas it came down to one of two factors. The creature either needed to resemble an elf, or it needed to have long blond hair. When weighing the two it seemed that the latter would be much likelier, which it ended up being.

Blaziken, as a Fire-type, may not have the forest adjacent connections you'd expect from an elven-owned Pokemon, but its long golden locks make it look as close to the legendary elven warrior as any Pokemon could possible come to do.

7 Eomer/Bisharp

eomer bisharp

These days actor Karl Urban is known as the brutal lead named Billy Butcher in Amazon Prime's hit superhero show The Boys. He made his mark when he portrayed Eomer in the Lord of the Rings films. He wore the iconic red armor associated with the Rohirrim and played the role in such a way it brought the secondary character into the limelight. Bisharp may not fight for the fate of Middle-Earth, but the Steel-type's red armor accented with gold is eerily similar to that worn by Eomer as he charged into battle on horseback.

6 Gimli/Piloswine

gimli piloswine

Gimli, a small but stout dwarven warrior, is a man mostly covered by thick and impenetrable armor. The small bits of skin he has exposed to the world around him are mostly covered by the legendary beard he sports on his face that synonymous with the dwarven race. Piloswine also happens to be a stout but rather hairy living creature who resides in some of the coldest places imaginable. It may not wield an ax or dig and create mines, but people would be hard-pressed to find a Pokemon with more Gimli energy than the Ice-type known as Piloswine.

5 Sauron/Steelix

steelix sauron

If someone said to name a large and intimidated being covered from head to toe in steel and wielding unimaginable intimidation in its eyes alone who would most people name? It seems like the obvious choice would be Sauron, but he happens to have a Pokemon counterpart that fits that exact description. Steelix, the Steel-type evolution of Onix introduced in the 2nd generation of games, is everything that Sauron is minus the weird tower with an all-seeing eye attached to the top of it. They're two giant collections of metal no one wants to run into.

4 Lurtz/Slaking

lurtz slaking

Lurtz may not be a name readers are immediately familiar with, but it happens to be the Uruk Hai commander who is solely responsible for the death of Boromir. It is the first significant death in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and showcases the unwavering brutality of Middle-Earth.

Lurtz is an ugly mass of muscle and blood with tones of hair. Slaking, though much lazier than Lurtz, is a Normal-type Pokemon who looks strangely more and more like the infamous Uruk Hai the more you look at the two side-by-side.

3 Gandalf/Alakazam

gandalf alakazam

Gandalf is a very large and lanky wizard who sports a commanding staff and a stoic awe-inspiring beard. In the world of Pokemon, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fantastical creature with a beard that comes close to Gandalf's, let alone having a beard at all. There are, however, plenty of powerful magic-users with a presence that feels powerful. Alakazam's mustache may not compete with Gandalf's beard, but in terms of magic and power, it can certainly hold its own with arguably Middle-Earth's most powerful wizard.

2 Gollum/Morgrem

morgrem gollum

A glance at Gollum will show viewers that he resembles a starving goblin of some sort. That's why the reveal of him once being a healthy and happy hobbit is so shocking. There aren't many Pokemon that resemble goblins, but there are a few that get close despite being closer to reptiles or trolls in terms of appearance. The Galar region introduced the world to the Dark and Fairy-type Pokemon Morgrem, who's a middle evolution that has the same scrawny look and large eyes of Gollum. It has much more hair than its balding hobbit counterpart, though.

1 Frodo Baggins/Eevee

eevee frodo

Not too many characters in Lord of the Rings are as doe-eyed and innocent looking as Frodo Baggins. The hobbit who ended up saving Middle-Earth was nothing more than a bashful young man when the audience is first introduced to him. His experiences with the world around him mold him into a strong and capable adventurer. Eevee, the Normal-type Pokemon, is just as innocent-looking as he was and serves as a base of inspiration for the rest of the Pokemon world when it comes to untapped potential and being molded by experiences.
