In this guide, we'll talk about where and how you can catch this fleeing Pokemon in the Paldea region and we'll also go over the unusual circumstances that it needs to be in in order to evolve.

Catching Gimmighoul

gimmighoul pokedex entry

Gimmighoul can seem uncatchable at first but that's because you might be trying to catch the wrong Gimmighoul form. This Pokemon is certainly an odd one since it's got two forms, Chest Form and Roaming Form, with the latter being the easiest one to find but also impossible to catch.

To get yourself a Gimmighoul and add its entry to your Pokedex, you're going to have to find a Chest form Gimmighoul. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know their whereabouts in the Paldea region. They tend to spawn at the top of watchtowers as well as in ruins around the map. Explore as much as you can to get the chance to come across this Pokemon.

How To Evolve Gimmighoul Into Gholdengo

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: evolving Gimmighoul into Gholdengo

You might not be able to catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul, but that doesn't mean that they don't have a purpose in the game; each time you encounter a Roaming Form Gimmighoul it'll drop Gimmighoul Coins before running away. These coins are absolutely mandatory when it comes to evolving Gimmighoul, so be sure to keep them in your inventory.

To evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, you need to have 999 Gimmighoul Coins in your bag as it levels up. This will cause the Pokemon to evolve and it will also consume the coins. A lot of grinding will have to go into evolving this Pokemon, especially if you want to evolve more than one.

You can get Gimmighoul Coins by interacting with Roaming Form Gimmighoul and defeating Chest Form Gimmighoul. Roaming Form Gimmighoul spawns on top of rocks and ruins, and Chest form Gimmighoul spawns on top of watchtowers and near ruins. When you find a Gimmighoul location, you can check it again in a couple of days because there's a chance a new Gimmighoul will spawn there.

Gholdengo is a Ghost- and Steel-type Pokemon making it immune to three different types and resistant to a total of nine types. On top of that, its unique ability Good as Gold makes it immune to status moves inflicted by its opponents.
