Updated September 20th, 2023 by Andrew Scariati: The Teal Mask DLC brings more Pokemon to shiny hunt as you venture across Kitakami to hunt down Ogerpon and The Loyal Three. There are a variety of existing Pokemon Scarlet tips to carry over into the DLC, so brush up on your farming methods below.

From cloning wild Pokemon to stockpiling Herba Mystica, these are all the best Scarlet & Violet tips and tricks you'll want to know.

10 Use Roost To Switch Types

Roost used by Mantine in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

While Roost's effect was available well before Scarlet & Violet's release, with the introduction of Tera Orbs, and the ability to Terastallize, it's never been easier to pull off some type-altering maneuvers. Savvy trainers will use this new mechanic to switch their Pokemon to a pure Flying-type before using Roost to lose that type and become Normal-type instead.

Depending on the matchup, this combination of carefully executed strategies will allow you to set up some seriously difficult-to-counter plays. Changing your Pokemon's type can completely nullify opposing attacks, particularly against Ghost-type Pokemon which will struggle to find moves that can hit a Normal-type.

9 Tera Raids Are Free Revives

Four trainers throw their Pokemon out to battle in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

When you decide to hop into a Tera Raid, don't worry about your chosen Pokemon's health either before or during the battle as you will receive a fully restored partner once the battle is over. This mechanic makes it exceptionally easy to hop from raid to raid without being forced to heal in between.

Feel free to exploit this knowledge when you're deep in the wilderness of Paldea and don't want to interrupt your adventuring to return to a Pokemon Center when your party gets low on HP. With some careful planning and a little time, you'll enjoy the rewards of your raids and then return to hunting Gym Badges without missing a beat.

8 Defeat Titans ASAP To Explore Freely

The Titan storyline offers some pleasant surprises, including the ability to share a super-food sandwich with your trusty Miraidon or Koraidon. Each sandwich will give your partner a new movement-based ability that will help you to traverse the map, crossing previously impassable boundaries.

Each Titan offers a challenge comprised of a long journey to reach them capped off by a multiphase battle that will test your mettle. The battles are fairly easy once you level up a bit, and their boons are incredibly useful as there are many items, trainers, areas, and new Pokemon that become available once you can glide and swim, in particular.

7 Use The Let's Go Feature To Farm

Tossing your Pokemon out to adventure and battle other Pokemon in the wilderness is an excellent way to farm materials and experience, as well as progress step-based evolutions. Some Pokemon, like Pawmo, must take a required number of steps in order to evolve, so this mechanic can become a necessity depending on your party.

While you will not gain the full amount of benefit from defeating Pokemon using this feature as you would from a normal battle, the time you save and the flexibility to multitask make Let's Go an excellent quality-of-life feature that you'll want to take full advantage of.

6 You Can Farm Gimmighoul Coins

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: evolving Gimmighoul into Gholdengo

During your journey across Paldea, you may come across several Gimmighoul coins scattered throughout the world. These coins are necessary to evolve from Gimmighoul to Gholdengo, so you'll need to collect 999 of them to evolve it.

The chests that award coins in bundles also respawn, so if you prefer to make quick chunks of progress, you can find these set locations quickly on the Paldea map, especially at the top of watchtowers. The smaller batches of coins also respawn around ruins, so you can pick a spot and continue to get coins from there over time until you have enough to perform the evolution.

If you nail down a short route of some of your favorite spots to collect the coins, you'll be at your goal in no time, despite the seemingly very high bar. Unlocking Miraidon or Koraidon's full range of movement abilities will make this process much easier.

5 Pick Fuecoco For Nuzlocke Runs

If you're a fan of challenge runs and Nuzlockes in particular, then you simply must choose Fuecoco as the tiny Fire-type packs an incredible punch — enough to be labeled the best starter to use in any Nuzlocke.

Once this little guy fully evolves, he'll be able to easily dispatch five gym leaders as well as two of the final five fights entirely on its own. This incredible feat is the result of Skeledirge having answers against Bug-, Psychic-, Grass-, Ice-, and Normal-type Pokemon across the several major fights.

4 You Can Duplicate Or Clone Wild Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Professor Styles From Two Different Time Periods

In the early days of Scarlet & Violet, several glitches were discovered, including one found by Youtuber Austin John Plays which allows you to catch as many rare Pokemon as you'd like — provided you are near a town with a loading zone, that is.

In order to perform the glitch, you will need to catch the Pokemon you want to duplicate, approach a town until its name appears, then immediately save and quit at that moment. Once you open the game again, the Pokemon you just caught should reappear where you found it, so rinse and repeat to your heart's content!

3 Focused Shiny Hunting Via Sandwiches

If you're a shiny-hunting aficionado then you simply must use the sandwich-making mechanic to hunt down your shiny of choice. Taking advantage of sandwiches that grant Sparkling Power level three will be essential in finding shinies faster than you ever have before.

You'll want to choose a sandwich with Sparkling Power that matches the type of Pokemon you want to shiny hunt. If you want to hunt down shiny Paradox Pokemon, then this mechanic can be used in Area Zero to fantastic effect, as there will be dozens of Paradox Pokemon appearing down here.

2 You Can Skip School

Scarlet & Violet Pro Tips: View of the school at the game's onset.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet was billed as being a completely open-world adventure that you can approach and move through at your own pace. However, Game Freak may not have expected their game world to be this wide open as GalaxyHunter17 on Reddit found it to be.

If you ignore your school and head to the southwest of Los Platos, you can hug the cliff and get stuck on a small ledge. From there, you'll need to target one of the nearby Pokemon in order to abuse the repositioning feature that moves your trainer model during battle, thus allowing you to glitch into Area Four and completely avoid the tutorial and its subsequent triggers. However, you won't be able to access gyms or Team Star bases, so enjoy this one for the novelty.

1 Farm The Same Tera Raid For Rewards

Pikachu, Mousehold and Charizard flaunting their Tera crystals in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet raids.

Have you ever found a Tera Raid that gave out a bunch of Herba Mystica as rewards and wished that you could do that same raid over and over again? Well, you can do exactly that by grabbing at least one other friend and completing the raid over and over again without saving.

The host will not be saving and thus will not receive the rewards.

Switch hosts to give them a turn to earn rewards.

The best raids to do this method with are Blissey as they can drop every time of Herba Mystica. Other options like Vaporeon, Gengar, and Amoonguss will also serve your purpose, allowing you to continue farming Herba Mystica for as long as you and your friends would like.
