Even though Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is one of the buggiest games of the year, most of us knew it was probably going to sell well. What most of us probably didn't predict is how well though, as it's been announced that the game has sold a whopping 10 million copies just 3 days after release, with 4.5 million of those copies selling in Japan alone.Nintendo announced these figures via its official Japanese Twitter account, revealing that Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is the most successful software launch in the company's entire history. This then prompted a flurry of mixed reactions from fans. Some were quite impressed by the numbers - as you might expect from a game selling that well - while plenty of others worry about the future of the series since the game's performance doesn't seem to have put off the larger gaming audience.Related: Where Are Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Special Attackers? The idea is that since Game Freak hasn't been punished for the state of Scarlet & Violet in terms of sales, fans think the developer won't make an effort to improve in that department for the next mainline title since it doesn't really need to. Game Freak has been punished by reviews though, both from critics and fans. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet was recently made the series' lowest-rated mainline game since Pokemon Emerald and is sat at an embarrassingly low user rating of 2.9 on Metacritic.

Game Freak hasn't released any kind of statement regarding the game's performance, so it's unknown whether a patch or two is in the works. In fact, the only official statement that we've received from either Nintendo or Game Freak about the game since launch is boasting about sales, something which hasn't gone down well with a large portion of fans.

It'll be interesting to see if this trend continues with Game Freak's output, especially since we'll more than likely have a more powerful Switch to play about with when the next mainline Pokemon game comes along. Maybe then people can stop excusing the poor performance on the Switch's hardware.
