Some of the rarest Pokemon are the Shiny Pokemon, alternate-colored versions of the monsters you know and love, sporting different colors and shiny effects. These Pokemon, however, are very difficult to put your hands on, so you must be as prepared as possible if you want to catch them all.

How To Get The Shiny Charm

Professor Jacq about to examine the player's Pokedex, in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

To get the Shiny Charm, you have to complete the Paldea Pokedex, which, of course, involves playing the entirety of this game and the post-game.

Every single Pokemon in Paldea must be captured, and once you get them all, you must go to the Biology Lab in the Naranja/Uva Academy and speak with Professor Jacq. He will evaluate your Pokedex completion for the last time and reward you with the Shiny Charm if you have successfully captured them all.

Remember that you can also check in occasionally for various rewards across several Pokedex milestones, so it's highly recommended to visit the Naranja/Uva Academy more often than not, even if you haven't captured them all.

How Does The Shiny Charm Work?

Once you obtain the Shiny Charm, it will bestow you a passive buff for shiny encounters of any kind except fixed encounters, like the Starter Pokemon, the Treasures of Ruin legendaries, or Koraidon/Miraidon.

The buff will apply to both wild and bred Pokemon, so in short, it'll help you immensely to embark on shiny hunting adventures or breeding sessions in search of those rare specimens.

Keep in mind the passive bonus of the charm will also add to other shiny-related effects, like:

  • The Sparkling Power that you obtain with various Picnic Meals
  • The Masuda Method of breeding eggs with Pokemon of different languages
  • The chain of defeated Pokemon of the same species in Mass Outbreaks
